I like watching people do karaoke but I hate singing in front of anybody. I swear karaoke is a national pastime here but luckily, in the four years we've lived here, I haven't had to sing at all. DH hasn't been as lucky.

Yes, it is fun! My parents had a machine growing up and just loved playing with the mike. I couldn't really sing their songs since I can't read all those Chinese characters and those were the only discs they bought. So when they went out, I would sing along to the regular radio and pretend I was a pop star.

Yes even though I can't sing for the life of me. I grew up in a household where ever Saturday night was karaoke night at my aunt and uncle's. LOVED IT!

I love it! My mom was a karoake DJ (or KJ) when I was growing up so we've been doing it for years and years! Each person in my family has a song, mine is 99 Red Balloons and I even learned a verse in German!

My mom, cousin & I had a routine we used to do to The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss) too!

This is funny, because I always thought the appeal of karaoke was for people who don't really sing a lot or were not great singers. I always thought that's what made it fun, but from this thread it seems that the people who enjoy it most are the ones who enjoy singing?

DH's family *loves* karaoke. They're not the best of singers, so they do it for fun and all enjoy it. My family never does karaoke, but we all sing and we sing often. I remember we tried karaoke a couple times when other people brought their machines over for parties, but it never caught on. It was like normal life but with a microphone and words.

@mrs. bee: I think I formed my theory based on my experience with my family and DH's. That's why I find it so funny that I was way off!
