@mrbee: I was thinking the other day about public holidays and wondering why we have them for religious reasons, random reasons (we have odd Mondays in May and August I can't remember the reason for) yet nothing for St George, St David or St Patricks day. I wonder if in our now multi cultural, multi religious society an overhaul of the holidays might be needed?

I love holidays, especially when I spend them with my DH's family. Every family has their drama, but my much smaller family produces so much more of it.

I love them because it means I have one more day to spend with my daughter. I hate that I can't take tomorrow off but I am happy she will spend the day with her Dad.

I love holidays!! Well, my work life situation is very different from @Mr. Bee 's so I can love holidays. Usually holidays land on a Monday, which I have off anyway, and if Wagon Sr. gets the day off too we have a family day if daycare is closed. Bonus if daycare is open..!! Then we send Wagon Jr. and usually pick him up early so we can have an afternoon and early dinner out together. Super fun.

If a holiday falls on another weekday I do get kind of frustrated since I'm paid hourly.

Since we are religious I do love holidays since most of them go along with our beliefs, and I love embracing the secular (non-religious) side of them as well-- for instance, I'm so excited for this weekend with the easter egg hunt, easter bunny meet and greet, and easter sunday service at church. Great (free!) activities for the kids, an excuse to dress them up fancy and great photo ops for the whole family.

Same with Christmas!

Funny note: Wagon Sr. and I were talking about putting together the kids' easter baskets this weekend and I asked if he wanted to do the whole easter bunny thing, like pretending the easter bunny dropped them off and chalking bunny footprints by the door, etc. Like Santa leaving presents under the tree. He said "no, I don't think so, Easter isn't about the easter bunny, it's about Jesus." and I said "well, so is Christmas!" haha.

We are pretty arbitrary. We celebrate our religious beliefs but we just kinda pick and choose the non-religious stuff according to what we like

I think we will like them more once we have a family of our own. My family lives on the other side of the country, and DH's family lives on an entirely different continent, so for the majority of the holidays it is just us. It honestly feels like "eh, what's the point" when it comes to celebrating.

I love holidays. I don't love obligations that come with holidays though (feeling like I have to buy gifts, send out cards, take pictures of the kids and family, make food, see family..)

I loooove holidays. I love to celebrate, I love being with family (whether it's just my little family or my big extended family) and I love not being at work. But my work is mostly driven by the stock market so on market holidays I really can't catch up anyway so I don't feel like I'm falling behind.
