I love it! I love having a loose theme, DIY-ing a few things, making stuff for the kids, etc. I think it's fun! And the real challenge is doing it all for cheap which just makes it a challenge for me.

I enjoy doing it for my kids' birthdays, and every odd year or so I'll plan something bigger for my husband's birthday. My birthday I want absolutely no parties or planning. Just casual night with my family where I pick the restaurant/meal - maybe a drink with a friend.

I theoretically like it but the reality is that I am almost always in a time crunch so it always stresses me out.

Nope. Not a fan. My three year old doesn't care a bit about having a Pinterest worthy party. She just wants to have fun with her friends. Spending tons of time and money on things she doesn't care about for a party that is supposedly for her just seems wasteful to me.

I enjoy it because it's the only time I get a chance to break out my craft supplies. One party a year was doable. Two parties is a bit tiresome, but it's spaced out about 6 months apart.

Yes!! I love it and have so much fun planning it and DIYing things to stay in the budget, but still make sure everyone has a good time. People say my parties are over the top, but I just enjoy having a project

I like to think I love it, but when it comes to actually executing the plans and details, I am totally over it and realise I actually am really terrible at DIY and being a crafty, creative mum. I have more 'nailed it' projects than I do actual successes, so one of these days I will just accept that I am not 'that mum' and will just stop trying.
That being said, I am in full on planning mode for DD1's 4th birthday in June - it's going to be a fairy garden theme and I am obsessed with planning for it. Of course her birthday falls one day before my due date so the reality is that hardly any, if any, of my plans are actually going to come to fruition! Sigh...

No, I really don't like it. We were never able to afford fancy parties growing up, but my cousins always had them. It made us really jealous and my mom feel really guilty. I don't have good memories associated with them.

I love to cook so I love to develop the menu and then execute it. I've also started to bake and decorate the cakes. We usually have large parties at home. But then I remember the night before that I don't have any decorations so I usually end up going to party city and getting some balloons. To be honest, I don't care about decorations. I like the food.

@Truth Bombs: @looch: I know this sounds argumentative, but I swear it's not. My Dd actually really does appreciate some of the details. Like a specific cake, or having her favorite colors, or fun cupcake toppers for the daycare "party". She also always loved the themed gifts and foods I put together for her school parties. She always comes up and says "oh, thank you mommy! I love it!". So, it's nice that the child I'm doing it for, appreciates it!

I never had birthday parties growing up. Not even cake because my parents were always working. I never got birthday cakes till I was older and my brothers were working and had money. I think that's why I always want to make sure birthdays are a big deal for my kids. It's not a Pinterest worthy party every year. But it's always special in some way.
And really, I don't think any of my parties are "Pinterest worthy" but it's is it fun to tie little details together.
@Ree723: I was almost going to do a fairy party too!! If you *want* to throw her a party what about doing it a bit earlier or later? It could simply be at home with a few friends of hers. I've got a lot of ideas pinned for this theme if you want it. @babyboecksmom just did a beautiful but not "over the top" fairy party for her daughter at home. I think it's doable!

@regberadaisy: I like it but I don't like to make it too complicated. I will budget my plans according to stress tolerance level. So very simple...but themed around LO's interests. Each year it is getting a bit smaller.

I find it hard to put the energy into planning parties he won't remember. And DH always had really low key birthdays so he didn't exactly encourage doing anything more than a meal with family.

@Ree723: The fairy party wasn't hard to put together once I finally figured out what I wanted (SO many options out there!) We had to have it inside because a cold front came in the day before the party, so it was tough to get the "garden" vibe inside, but still so much fun! Let me know if you want any pics or details.

I don't enjoy it. The only real party we have had was at a place we rented out, and they provided everything.

I have love/hate feelings so I just do what I feel like at that particular time. If I feel like throwing a big party, I do. If I don't, I don't. My kids have had a great time either way. At the end of the day, they are happy with a few presents, a cake, and some balloons!

I love coming up with party schemes and themes, and tying it all together with the menu, decor, and activities. It's the execution and my tendency to procrastinate that makes me want to find the nearest hole to bury myself in.
