What are your favorite flavors? I have a never-been-used ice cream maker in my closet! My friend gave it to me when I got married.

I just got one for my birthday next month, but it's still SO COLD here, so I haven't used it yet. Let me know if you find any good recipes though!

My DH does all the time - he makes vanilla but actually gets vanilla beans so its extra delicious.

I have, but it usually comes out way too icy. Still tastes pretty good though! I think the trick is to let it stay in the machine for as long as possible.

We make strawberry and salted caramel. We've tried a few others but those two we've done multiple times!

I just tried for the first time this weekend. I sort of made up a recipe and it didn't quite work out. But I'm determined to use it more this summer and I LOVE ice cream.
If anyone has some tried and true recipes, I'd love to have them!

This website has some fabulous recipes: http://icecreamireland.com/category/recipes/. Seriously the best ice creams I've ever made...the recipes are pretty exact and take awhile to make but it's worth it. I often make green tea (either with loose green tea or matcha powder, both are good) and chocolate. I made lemon curd ice cream once and it was delicious. I also like David Lebovitz's strawberry frozen yogurt, http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2006/04/may-day-market/, and you can sub any type of berry you want!

I did strawberry malt ice cream that was delicious, and strawberry basil. I did a bailey's one once that was awesome, but I have no idea where I got the recipe.
I don't remember the title, but David Lebovitz has an ice cream cookbook that I highly recommend!

Mmm homemade ice cream!! We have an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchen Aid. Maybe this summer we'll make some!

Either they are super rich and I can barely eat one scoop, or too icy. I haven't found the perfect balance yet.
@purplepeony: those sound promising!

I have used my ice cream maker once! Freezing the bowl took up so much space! But it was yummy. Dark chocolate.

@autumnlove: yum yum... I think I tried that last summer and it was very well received by the kids...

@abbylyn: The Perfect Scoop! We have it and every recipe in it is amazing so far. My faves are Malted Milk ice cream and Lemon-Speculoos. I can't wait for summer to make some!

I don't, but my friend makes amazing blueberry animal cracker ice cream and earl grey tea ice cream.

@autumnlove: I want an ice cream maker! I would make fro-yo...the plain tart kind you get at menchi's. Google it...I think you get plain yogurt and sugar and put it in the ice cream maker

Oooh I might be requesting a machine for my birthday! My MIL asked for ideas and this sounds perfect!

I made vanilla once. It was a lot more work than I expected! But it was delish!

Mr. T loves brown sugar ice cream, I really like Guinness Chocolate and Lavendar Honey. I make most of our own because Ellie can't have any kind of dye. It's fun for the girls to choose mix-ins and we have a self-refrigerated one so we can make several different flavors at once if we want to.

This thread is making me consider dragging out our ice cream maker!
@Mrs. Twine: I can't really eat store-bought ice cream because they're pretty much all made on shared lines with peanuts/tree nuts/coconut/palm now. DH went looking for chocolate-covered ice cream bars for me the other day and had to go to so many stores. Lavender honey sounds so good!

@spaniellove: It sounded really strange to me, but it's addicting. Our local CSA (which is now just an education farm) lets us come and pick herbs if we share some of the things we make back with them, and I get lavender there. It's one of the most treasured parts of summer to me. I think Ellie shares some similarities with you, though she isn't as restricted. It's still hard when so many foods have artificial color. Even things you wouldn't expect!

I made bourbon peach ice cream with a caramel swirl over the summer with peaches from our farm share. Did something similar with blackberries. My favorite so far was the bittersweet chocolate ice cream that I made for a ice cream pie that I made for my mom for her birthday. Up on the agenda for this year: cinnamon, salted caramel, and strawberry
