I just realized that I haven't even though about a mobile for the nursery.
Do you have one? Is this something I can do without?
Also, where do you have yours? I have noticed some have them over the crib while others the changing table or other areas of the nursery

I wanted one but never got around to making one or buying one and as it turns out, it was fine! You can totally do without!

We have one and he could care less about it. But he does love this thing, so I do think it's nice to have something they like in the crib. I could set him down and he'd watch it while I got ready or just had some alone time.

We never used a crib mobile but she liked the one on her swing.

Oh man. DH is currently trying to convince me we don't need a *bassinet* (or co-sleeper or anything so the baby can be in our room at the beginning) - he actually wants to put the baby in our uppababy bassinet attachment on the FLOOR at the beginning so we have 1 less thing to buy. LOL. Anyway that's all to say NO, we aren't getting one and you'll probably be fine!

@Smurfette: And he like, won't let me talk him out of it. It's tabled for now but it's taking all the self-control in the world to not fly off the handle about it.

@JoJoGirl: Well it isn't the worse thing in the world. At least he doesn't want to you make the baby sleep in the car seat or something. Do you have a table or something you can put the bassinet on so you aren't having to bend over all night long?

@Smurfette: Once I actually explain the 'bending over all night long' thing to him, I'm sure he'll understand (especially since he's 6'2" so that'll be a LOT of bending for him!), but we have so many other things to worry about first i'm just not addressing it yet. UB sells a stand to go with it but it's just as expensive as a PnP w/ bassinet attachment so that's been my plan this whole time and he's like no, we already have a bassinet, why should we buy another? LOL. Ugh.

I never got one because I thought they were ugly. Around 4 months I bought one so that J would sit in the crib for a minute and be entertained while I went to the bathroom or folded laundry.
Once he could pull himself up to stand a few months later it was useless.

@JoJoGirl: DH told me we don't need a changing pad because we can just change the kid on the floor on a towel. Sigh. That may be TRUE in principle, but yeah, I'm buying the pad.

We got one more for the aesthetic than purpose. Our family joke is that it's a stationary because it doesn't move, or do anything. I just like the way it looks mor than anything.

@LazyLightning: A lot of people tell me that they didn't use a changing pad and it's easier on the floor with a towel! We bought a cheap Ikea one just in case.

We have this one and DD loves it. It was $30 at buybuybaby and keeps DD occupied while I get ready for work in the morning and coos to it before bed at night.

@JoJoGirl: no kidding. gotta have every accessory out there for the TV or whatever his obsession is, but the baby? OMG don't buy anything. Now, on one hand I agree. I don't want a pile of baby furniture everywhere, especially since our home is older and has little storage space and narrow hallways...

I made one for less than $10. It's totally more for me than for LO though. I'm sort of obsessed with decorating her nursery. It was a little time consuming, but super easy and cheap. Here's an IG pic of it...

FWIW, i plan to make one too - and it's definitely more for 'me' than the kid at this point. I think it'd be fun to make, and would look cute in the nursery. Will probably hang it over the crib.

@JoJoGirl: I think PrincessBaby got a stand for the UBV bassinet on Amazon that was way cheaper than the UB one, FYI.
I don't think you NEED a mobile, but I know my nephew was entertained by his for a few months-- he would lay and watch it spin/listen to the music long enough to scarf down a sandwich or go to the bathroom AND wash your hands or something special like that

I made one, for me. It's above his crib that he hasn't slept in yet, lol. It was a good distraction towards the end of my pregnancy, though

I made one. We're going to hang it over the changing table though. I think it's pretty sturdy but I don't want it over the crib just in case. If I didn't get around to making it I don't think I would have bought one. I really think it's more of an aesthetic thing.
