Yes, with baked goods for sure! I really don't like store-bought cookies. Even the break and bake (so pre-made but you bake at home) taste weird to me. Plus chocolate chip cookies are so easy to whip up, might as well just make them at home

Yes, for many baked goods, especially with frosting and since it's so easy to make a simple cake with buttercream or cream cheese frosting, I usually make it.

omg yes. And homemade pound cake is THE SHIT. Paula Deen's sour cream one is soooo amazing. I can always tell a homemade baked good from a store bought one. Not that I don't NOT like some store bought baked goods, but I just know. I do nearly all our baking+cooking from scratch and cut very few corners.

I have a few tricks for room temp stuff: i usually set the eggs in a bowl of warm water and i'll microwave the butter in intervals of ten seconds. It's always worked just fine for me. Close enough, ya know?

YES, for sure! Of course there are real shitty bakers that make the exceptions to the rule, but by and large homemade baked goods are a totally different animal than store-bought baked goods.

Store-bought baked goods are just overwhelmingly SWEET. Like, many times they don’t have any distinct flavor besides just sweet. This is especially true for anything that should taste tart, like lemon anything, key lime pies, etc. and pie crusts (store-bought have zero flavor generally, homemade actually have flavor).

Frosting is another one, as others have said. Frosting can have great flavor, and not be so sweet it hurts your teeth

Yes, especially with baked goods. Not saying store bought doesn't taste good, but it definitely tastes different.

bakery items I can tell, if I'm going to waste the calories I want it to be homemade. Frosting has to be homemade not for a can, it's just to chemically for me.

I can taste the difference between store-bought baked goods, box mixes, and from-scratch baked goods. And canned frosting, in my opinion, is gross. I almost always bake from scratch.

@blackbird: see now, just you saying "start with" already elevates your boxed cake. My parents started and stopped with boxed cake and canned icing. A friend of mine used some cake doctor cook book and transformed boxed cake into dessert gems. Lol

I generally like homemade over store bought but I had a whole foods cake at my baby shower and it was so good that I am considering getting one for LO's first birthday - even the icing was delicious. Also we have a few local bakeries that make homemade tasting chocolate chip cookies but that is so much more expensive than homemade - if I only want 1 cookie in the house, I'll buy it but if I want/need a bunch - baking them is the way to go.

I would 100% rather bake my own stuff. I think it's way better. Store bought is just too teeth-meltingly sweet for me. I enjoy baking from scratch, so it's fine.

Costco pecan pies are an exception. Holy hell, are they good.

I can definitely taste a difference, especially with baking! I'd much rather make my own, and I make a pretty mean chocolate chip peanut butter pound cake with a peanut butter drizzle. NOM.
