Have you had to work on your swearing since your lo was born? How do you stop this bad habit before the lo starts to understand and repeat?

Ummm, my son repeated "sh$t" the other day so I am definitely on lockdown with my use of bad language. My husband never swears so I am the culprit.

We both swear pretty regularly, but I'm really good at hearing what I'm saying before I speak in any situation. So it's not hard for me to watch what I say. My husband, on the other hand, is the king of speaking before thinking, so I just constantly keep on him. We basically have an unspoken thing where I just grab his arm when he needs to watch his mouth. Or I say "children, honey," and he gets the hint. It's hard, though.

Omg! I work with ALL males and they curse like sailors so I've picked it up. The hubby is also horrible about it. I'm pretty mindful when I'm around children, but sans kiddos - yikes! It's definitely something we'll need to work on when we have kids.

I let a F bomb slip out every now & again... I do feel guilty, I don't want my LO to curse.

LO is coming in Feb and I reeeally need to work on this. I don't swear a TON or anything, but it happens fairly often. I don't want a swearing baby!

Oh, I'm so bad about cussing around kids 0_0. I don't even think about it, and I know DH and I need to realllly work on it when we have an LO. We have filthy mouths!!

I stopped swearing in high school because I didn't want my little brother to pick it up. DH swears at work but rarely does at home since I don't.

We both swear. And we're trying to cut down now before LO is here! :X

We don't swear a lot anymore. We do drop S and F bombs once in a while. Trying not to curse since Lo copies everything we do and say now!

We both swear, but he's definitely worse. I've been making an effort to watch my language, and I remind him frequently to do the same.

I make up curse words. So I think I'm pretty harmless. If my kids are repeating "Holy macaroni" and "Shitake!" and "Fuzzibuns!"... I don't think we'll be in much trouble.

We don't swear in our house, ever!
Actually I take that back. Sometimes when I drop things I say the S word.

I broke my swearing habit a long time ago. My husband doesn't cuss at home, but he says he does at work. The only people we'll have to worry about our LOs picking up cuss words from is their uncles.

we both swear a lot and LO is coming at the end of January. Maybe we'll make it our joint new year's resolution with a swear jar going to the college fund or something?

I broke myself of my swearing habit a while ago. I swear a lot in my own head, but the things that come out of my mouth are much less harmless.
DH has a potty mouth though....omg....but it's in Spanish so it seems less bad to me. Sometimes he will swear in English and I give him a death stare so he's knows not to do that. I'd rather any LOs not pick it up though, no matter the language. I guess we'll work on it once we get there.

Ah we both are potty mouths. DH gets mad at things sometimes and puts "earmuffs" on the dog when he cusses, which is freaking adorable haha
I figure we've got 6.5months until a baby is here, and then another year until they start talking ;P

We both swear but we try not to around around LO!

We rarely swear, but still sometimes it does slip out. More with DH than me in front of LO..... he always apologizes.

Luckily LO is only 4.5 months old. But both DH and I need to work on our language. We've joked about funding her college with a swear jar. I'm sure DH would need to throw $20 in there to cover a football game. But yeah, we're both going to try working on censoring ourselves.

@Goldilocks1107: I asked my husband if he would do a swear jar this weekend and he said if he did that, he would have no money left to play with! Uh...that's the point....haha.

I swear, and so did my parents. They said damn, crap, shit...these were words that I knew were for adults, though. I do need to limit the f word.

Yeah, it's really hard. I swear a lot, and I'm really comfortable with the image that the language I use conveys. But I recognize that my toddler won't be quite as familiar with the nuance of language usage, so I'm trying to just stop. It felt really confining at first, and I haven't been able to stop when I'm surprised or hurt. My toddler is getting really verbal, so I'm kind of stressing about it.
