Or do you even know how to use one? The answer is no to both for me. I feel somehow like a failure because of this fact. I wish I had mandatory home ec or something of the sort. Maybe one day I'll learn, but I should probably learn how to cook first.

Yep. I have a very basic Singer that has gotten me through many big projects. I learned to use it over the phone - my mom explained it.
Unfortunately, since DD was born it has been gathering a lot of dust.

Yup! I usually have one project or another going. You should look into adult ed classes! I hadn't sewed since middle school home ec, but I took an adult ed class that lasted 6 weeks or so, and loved it! I've also taken beginner classes at a local quilting shop

I own two, actually. One I recently inherited from D's late grandmother...it came in it's own cabinet that her husband built for it. I haven't used it, yet, though. I'm a little bit intimidated by it!
I don't do anything fancy like clothes (although I'd like to learn), but things like pillow and blankets, and I made a big wall tapestry for E's room.

Yes, but I don't know how to use it! I bought a Janome Hello Kitty sewing machine on sale from Target ($25), and I can't figure it out.

Yes but I don't know how to use it! DH loves to joke about it because I never even opened the box. I hate that I always find the simplest uses for it (pants need to be hemmed) but can't bring myself to just try it.

I inherited my MIL's sewing machine when she passed away not too long after we were married. I took it to get cleaned and inspected and was told I had a beautiful vintage machine; however I didn't have the instruction book and the guy who cleaned it couldn't get a replacement. Luckily FIL found the instructions. I've since made a few minor projects with my major one being curtains for our living room.
It mostly sits in its case.

I'm thinking of asking for one for Christmas this year (along with lessons). I have no idea how to sew and can only knit things in a long rectangular/square shape (so lots of blankets and scarves).
It's so funny, I scoffed at HomeEc and Fabrics classes in high school, and now I wish I had taken them instead of Spanish!

Yes, I even get adventurous several times a year and use it. After hours of violent cursing I've usually finished a project that most people could complete in half the time. I bought it at Joann Fabrics, they offer a free into class (that I have taken 3 times, because I just can't get it down past the basics!)

I have three because I am apparently a hoarder and can't say no to things that were once either my or my husband's grandmother's. They are all those old fashioned sewing machines, but I know two of them work. I don't know how to use them though....

Yep I do. But to be fair, my grandma was a seamstress and taught me how to sew literally before I could read or write. I keep mine set up in my crafty area and I usually do at least a couple projects/year.

I got a very basic singer that I've used to make a lot of projects.
I inherited my grandmother's 1950s singer in it's original cabinet (it even has the original receipt inside)
I don't use my grandmother's because I'm afraid of breaking it (and it probably needs to be serviced), but I keep mine on top of the cabinet.

Yes, I own 2 and a serger. I sew a lot. I make baby carriers, clothes, lots of altering, and when DH decides it's time for a home change (3-4 times per year) I make curtains and pillow covers.
