DH does. I don't.
We haven't had issues with leaking yet.

Yes I do, although tbh DS1's has always naturally pointed down itself. DS2's seems a bit more wayward - so I think we will need to be more careful!

I did when he was an infant, but he pretty much stopped peeing during changes pretty quickly. We occasionally have issues with him peeing if we're taking too long (like a really messy poopy diaper) or let him run around naked after bath too long, but for a typical change, its not really an issue.

@bluestriped bee: nope! but it usually ended up that way. DH did point it down

Never did and didn't know it was something we were supposed to do!

Yes, when he was little, but then as he started to get bigger I mostly just worried about it at night.
I didn't even know until a couple days in when the health nurse came for her visit.

Yes. When he was brand new it took me a while to figure out why the line on his diaper wasn't blue when he peed. I finally realized all the pee was hitting the diaper above the line because we weren't pointing it down. But it still never actually leaked so it wasn't a huge deal.

I did when he was an infant. Don't now at 17 months (and can't remember when I stopped). No leaks ever unless we needed to size up in diapers.

@bluestriped bee: my friend recommended this to reduce leaking but I don't think it makes a difference.

Yes. We found when he was a baby that pointing up or to the side was directly correlated with leaking. He stopped leaking entirely when we realized.

yes!
He always leaked and then my mom told me this trick - never leaked again!

Yes! The pediatrician even mentioned it at his first visit, so it always stuck with us.

Yep! And still do at 21 months. My mom used to forget and she couldn't ever figure out why he'd get a giant wet spot on his tummy or down his leg but a dry diaper, so it couldn't be pee! So for us, it made the difference of catching everything or catching almost nothing.

Hadn't thought of it, but I'd take his lead on this one because he has a penis and I don't lol.
My guess is that we'll point it down for leaking issues.

no, I can barely get his diaper on nowadays so there ain't no time for that. no issues with leaking.

My son is still baking, but this is the one piece of advice I keep hearing from moms of boys! Interesting that so many of you don't do it!

@stiletto_mom: men have penises but they didn't diaper themselves. My husband had no idea about pointing it down before closing the diaper.

@stiletto_mom: @Truth Bombs: My husband also did it because he said he thinks it hurts him when it is pointed up. I assumed it was something he had personal experience with.

I only did for the first two months or so. I've never had a leak issue so I don't worry about it anymore

It was necessary with DS1 or he would leak all over the place. With DS2, we don't really need to. Poor little thing is a bit chubbier so he has more of a little baby fupa that sort of gives him an innie.

Yup. We had issues with leaks when he was a newborn and it was better when we started pointing his pens down.

I did when he has little because if it was sideways he had leaks. Now it's pretty much down all the time anyway.
