I try to cook no meat since my husband is a (non-practicing) Catholic. But I will eat it for lunch when he's not with me. But I do love a good fish fry

I do. I LOVE Fish Fry season as I call, but have this year has been rough since I have gone dairy free since most places dip the fish in milk or buttermilk before they batter it:(

I'm a non-practicing Catholic and the past couple years I've been more relaxed about it than in the past. If I remember then I don't eat meat, but I don't beat myself up about it if I forget.

I nomally do, but this year, being pregnant has made me not like meat so much. So if I get the urge to eat it on Fridays, then I will. I need more protein in my diet right now.
@Shutterbug: @jessiejo17: Odd question, and I hope you aren't offended by it, but if you or your DH aren't practising Catholics, then why do you bother with the no meat?

normally, although, honestly, some years i'm stricter with it than others (like, sometimes i do a no-red-meat and eat chicken still) - this year i'm trying to stick to no-meat-means-no-meat

@Grace: No offense taken DH still hangs on to it because deep down he feels like he is going to disappoint his mother for switching religions. When in fact she already knows and is okay with it, we regularly attend a different Christian religious service (where we were married and DD was baptized!) It's the momma's boy coming out in him. haha

@Grace: Not offended! I guess because of Catholic guilt? haha Honestly though, my post up there is the first time I've ever called myself a non-practicing Catholic. I haven't been to church in a looong time, but I still like the idea of the tradition and sacrifice of Lent, and I do still consider myself Catholic, if I'm anything. I'm having a hard time articulating this, actually.

I used to be really good about it, but haven't been so good as of late. Plus, they say during pregnancy you don't have to follow it (or so I heard) so I'll happily take that out this year. In fact we're going out to an amazing Cuban restaurant tonight where I will definitely be getting steak. I too really need more protein in my diet right now.

No. We are both catholic, but don't practice. My husband used to try to please his mom, but that stopped

@Shutterbug: No, I see what you're saying. It makes sense.
@jessiejo17: lol. I guess it's a small thing to do to keep him feeling good.

I do! Growing up I thought it was such a chore, but now that I'm older and eat less meat regularly, it's not such a big deal.
