I've had both. In theory, I'd think I would prefer female, but reality, I've liked my male bosses better.

My male bosses have always been better professionally. The female bosses I've had in the past were very gossipy & clearly had favorites.

The female bosses I've had were awful to me. I've had bad experiences with female bosses in general. On the other hand, I've been with my male boss whose about 10 years younger than my parents for 7 years next week. We get along really well and he trusts my abilities, etc. When I was pregnant, he became very fatherly worrying about my due date, etc. I think he was way more worried about my water breaking and going into labor at work than I was. During my labor, I was worried about calling him to let him know it was happening. My husband had my phone, so I couldn't call him until 1pm, the day I delivered.

I think it depends on the person- I've had great and rubbish bosses of both sexes. I got on great with my last male boss and a previous female boss is now one of my closest friends.
