we have both in the house, i think for bedrooms i prefer carpet, and hardwood for other rooms.

I like how hardwood floors look but not how they feel. I'm always cold, so I prefer carpet. Or I could just wear socks or slippers if I had hardwood floors.

We only have hardwood and tile in our house. No carpet here.
