I still prefer reading hard copies of books! Plus, if I want to read outside or at the beach, it's hard to read a screen.
For school this year I did purchase one electronic textbook because it was a savings of $200 and it's been ok. Not preferable, but to save that much $$ it was worth it.

Both! I love curling up at home with a hard copy, but nothing beats the ease of traveling with my Nook, or the instant gratification of downloading a new book in seconds.
@Mrs. Pen: I have one of the old Nooks with the E-ink, so it's like reading a regular book even outside. I might have a different opinion if I only had a reader with a backlit computer screen.

@MrsRoo: yeah, I have an iPad. The convenience and affordability IS nice, but it's a lot harder to read outside - even on cloudy days.

Kindle for the subway (way easier to hold and flip pages on a jam-packed train) and vacations but books for other situations!

I love reading from real books, but love the affordability and convenience of having my books any time, anywhere.
As for school, I can only use hard copies. I just don't mentally absorb material well off a computer screen.

Hard copy...not sure if I'll ever come around to a kindle. Not only do I love the feeling/smell etc of a book, I also love being able to loan them out to friends, etc.

Hard copies 100 percent. I just can't enjoy a book on a tablet. I got an ebook that I really want to read but I just never want to read on there. Nothing will ever compare to a bound book for me.

It depends... if it's a novel than I don't mind reading it on the Kindle, but for cook books and research/how to books, I prefer hard cover

Depends. For something I want to own/read more than once-- hard cover for sure. I like owning a tangible thing. But for quick books I'm just going to read once I prefer reading on my kindle paperwhite. The sunlight thing isn't an issue, it is lighter and smaller than a book, and I only need one hand. Plus I can read it with the lights off and it isn't so bright like when I have my end table light on to read a "real" book. That part is somewhat important because I do most of my reading at night before bed when my husband is sleeping and the end table light annoys him but the kindle does not.

I recently got a Kindle from my DH in preparation for being a new mom. We thought it would be nice to be able to read while nursing in the dark or read one-handed while holding baby. It's a nice thing to have, but I still significantly prefer real books!

While I see the benefit of kindles and have considered getting one, I strongly prefer hard copy books.

I like them for different genres... but overall I prefer Kindle.
Kindle - All Fiction
Paperback - Nonfiction, Reference, and Parenting books because it's easier to flip back and forth if I need to refer back to something. I usually don't do that with fiction.

I prefer actual books, hands down.
For research or reference books, I love being able to write notes and flip back and forth in the pages. I just love the feeling of a book and turning pages.
For the convenience, I do love my kindle. I like being able to read at night without disturbing my husband, and being able to carry multiple books at once.

I kinda prefer electronic version... Never need a bookmark and I can read any book I want, anytime! But nothing will replace the smell of a book and it's pages...

i think i can read faster on the electronic version because it's easier to hold. but i like to go back and reference things, and that's easier on an actual book!

I like a good healthy mix. For cookbooks, no doubt, only hard copy. But I've really liked reading on my kindle. I recently read the entire Harry Potter series and did a combo of hard copy and on the kindle. Those books are so big, I liked the kindle better. I also think I read a lot faster too. But there is something to be said for reading an actual book.

We share a room with DD so I do a lot of reading in the dark. I really appreciate e books now. my commute is also long so I do a lot of reading on the train and not having to turn pages while standing up is great

I really love the convenience of my nook, how easy it is to hold, travel with, and that I can get a new book right when I want it. But I hate that you pay so much for a book that isn't really tangible, and I don't think I could ever use a textbook in electronic form.
