With V-Day approaching, I've been browsing Pinterest for cute gift ideas for LO, and I'm amazed at how creative people are! I WISH I were a DIY mom but the prospect of crafting or anything of the sort stresses me out!

I love doing crafts! That being said I feel like I have way less time since having a baby. I still try to fit some crafty time in when I can though

DIY! Though I like supporting Etsy/handmade shops when it comes to stuff I can't or don't want to make.
@dojo: It's funny, I have wayyy less time now but craft way more. I think since I SAH I feel happier when I have something tangible to show for my week/day

DIY - love it. Before baby I had an entire room dedicated to my craft supplies. Now it is a closet in DH's office, but still love to do it when I can.

I think it depends on what it is. I prefer to make a bday banner verses buying. But hanging tissue Pom Pom I would rather buy cause mine never look good.

Depends on how long it's going to take. I love to sew and stuff like that, so I tend to sew stuff for E. But I don't have a lot of time anymore, so I pick and choose, basically.

@dojo: @scg00387: @stine_ciro: What kind of stuff do you ladies make? Maybe I can start with something simple but I dont even know where to start!

I did a little of each. I did a diy outfit and bought other things like bows, socks, book, toy, etc.

I'd love to be able to DIY, but I'm not creative so even something that looks simple can take me much longer to do. The hubby is more creative than I am so I always have to have him nearby so he can assist. I overthink and overcomplicate things.

I'd much rather buy. But a lot of the stuff I see is totally DIYable for cheaper, so I feel I should at least try....

@betsyboop: if the idea of DIY stresses you out, skip it! I grew up with a crafty Mom, so I was started young. At the moment I am really loving learning more about sewing. Making some homemade playdough might be an easy one!

I like DIY because I like the personalization and the process, but oftentimes I think it ends up costing just as much as buying.

@betsyboop: Same! I prefer to buy.
I'm trying to plan my son's 1st bday party, and just figuring out which things to DIY vs buy stresses me out! I find that DIY isn't always cheaper because since I'm not a regular DIY-er I don't have a lot of supplies readily handy, and would have to buy them to make whatever it is I want to make... then I end up with a lot of junk supplies that I might never use again!! So I definitely consider those things before trying to DIY anything.

@Alivoo01: This describes my approach to DIY to a T! Something looks so simple, but I start it and realize it's much harder and messier than I originally thought!
@scg00387: homemade play dough is a great idea, thanks!

@betsyboop: fusible webbing and hot glue are my best friends. Most of the things I make are short term or light use - if I need it to last more than once or twice through the washer, I'll buy it, but if it's going to hang on the wall or not have a lot of handling, I'll make it.
Ideas for beginners
- decorate a onesie by cutting out a shape in cute fabric and use fusible webbing (stitch witch) to adhere the shape to the onesie. This is good for holiday outfits or something that will only be worn a few times and I would avoid drying the item to make it last longer. I've used stitch witch to make decorative pillow cases and a bed skirt for my guest bedroom before, too.
- hair bow holder. Spray paint an old picture frame a fun color. Use hot glue to attach ribbons to the back of the frame. Hang frame on wall and clip the bows to it. There are a ton of examples on Pinterest.
My other best friend is wired ribbon. I cannot make nice looking bows with regular ribbon, so I usually buy wired and just bend the loops into shape after I've tied the bow.

@scg00387: same! We build/craft what comes naturally to us and outsource the rest. I wish I had the space to leave out crafts as working on my daughters birthday party was crazy with crafts everywhere!

It depends. Last year for Valentines day, I made heart shaped crayons which took forever (it's not as easy as it looks to peel crayons) so I stuck with a treat bag this year for preschool. It's a shovel that says "I dig you" and I'll add a few Hersey kisses probably.

If I have time I prefer to DIY. It can be stressful but so satisfying. I miss crafting.
