I will never forget the smartest kid in my fourth grade class. He was so clearly smarter than me, it wasn't even funny. It was such a humbling moment, to realize that there were people out there that could wipe the floor with me if they wanted.

It turns out though, that he didn't want to. He moved to Europe in high school and came back a raging alcoholic. Instead of feeling relieved though, I just felt so sad for all that wasted talent. It was the first time I saw immense talent squandered to an addiction. I hope he turned things around at some point...
