I don't always but sometimes I noticed how gross it is, so I'll throw it in the dishwasher.

Nope! I have a special can opener that doesn't cut metal.

Nope! I have an automatic one and I just wipe it down every now and then. My MIL puts hers in the dishwasher after every single use though, so I don't know if there is a right or wrong way?

Most of the time. Every once in a while I put it in the dishwasher.

Only after dh uses it, cause he throws it in the sink among other dirty dishes. I put it back right away after I use it.

@bluestriped bee: Were you watching that episode of Good Eats last night? He was talking about how the can opener is often the dirtiest thing in the kitchen. Ew.
But I don't wash it every time. I usually look at it and if it looks clean, I drop it back in the drawer, but I probably should rinse it.

@chopsuey119: if it doesn't cut metal, what does it do?

And yes, I do. I usually throw it in the dishwasher, though I'm not sure you're supposed to do that...

@mediagirl: My can opener has been getting rusty. So I should probably start hand washing it. I don't know if you're suppose to put it in the dishwasher, either.

@bluestriped bee: you should look at the one I have. I've had it for 8 years or so, never washed it and it's as good as new

@katiew92081: this! ha, and it makes me crazy because it's always so dirty because it has been sitting with the dirty dishes, whereas it wasn't even dirty when he used it!

Yes. Then I let it dry before placing it in the drawer to prevent rust.

@chopsuey119: I have the same can opener! I love it. No , more cuts from opening cans!
I do rinse the opener sometimes.

@chopsuey119: @bluestriped bee: I have the same can opener. It's pretty awesome! I scrambled to get one after one of my coworkers cut through the flesh between her thumb and index finger while preparing dinner for her LOs. She needed surgery and her hand was out of commission for weeks!
ETA: I don't wash mine but it looks pretty clean =P I should probably start washing it...
