We've always slept with it open, to allow the cat access to her litter box (and her and the dogs access to water). But now that LO is in our room we're nervous about the cat (she likes to sit way too close to our faces), so we've been shutting it to keep her out. She is not happy about it.

Depends on the season. In the summer its closed so we can keep all the cold air in. In the winter when the heater is on its open otherwise it would become a furnace.

Closed. We don't have AC in our house, just a unit in our bedroom. Gotta keep that cool air in the room! ( It was still 40oC at 7pm yesterday! (104F) it's so hot here.

I could never sleep with the door open! Even the closet doors and bathroom door have to be closed before bedtime....

We keep it closed and DS' door is closed too, but when I was growing up, my parents always left all the doors open and wouldn't let us close our doors (until I was a teenager). They liked to do a loop around the house and check on us when they would get up to pee at night and my brother and I always could leap into bed with them if we got scared. Based on that, I'm open to leaving our door open when our son gets older if he wants that.

Usually closed, but lately it has been open since it's so hot in the house, we want as much circulation as we can get!

Open - I don't really like the bedroom door closed for some reason! We do close our LOs' bedroom doors though, just not ours.

Open. Our room is on the 4th floor, in a converted attic space and the ventilation is the pits. If we close the door it's majoy stuffy.

Closed. I want privacy, and to be able to pretend I didn't hear my 3 year old yelling MUUUUUM!!! from her room

Open. The animals come and go all night. Also, I can hear both boys with it open.

Closed. DD is closed too. This might all change once we transition to big bed but for now we do it for extra quiet and for fire reasons. I come from a family of fire fighters and it's been drilled in my head that closed doors are safer in case of a fire.

Open unless we have guests then we close it. Especially if my parents are staying over. They like to stay up late and blast the TV.

In our new house closed. The kids still co-sleep and DH works an off shift....our room is near the kitchen and he can be loud

Closed but not pushed all the way. LO likes to come in our room in the morning, and it's easier that way.

Closed. As soon as I open it the dog jumps up in the bed and keeps me awake.

@chopsuey: We sleep with ours open, but when we have kids that are running around probably closed haha.

Open so the cat can come in and out (and so we can hear E).

Open, since J sleeps in a toddler bed and leaves his room on his own. I like to be able to hear when he wakes up.

We sleep with is *mostly* closed, but technically open. This way our kitty can come and go as she pleases, but it keeps most of the cool air in.

Closed, but never locked.
My father was a volunteer firefighter. He said it was safer to sleep with doors closed because they can slow down the spread of smoke in the event of a fire. But there should always be a smoke detector above the door so if smoke does start to come in, you know quickly.

Open - I feel like we can't hear anything when the door is closed. We have a large ranch style home with four different entry doors on the opposite end of the house and it scares me to not be able to hear anything! Plus with baby on the way it just makes sense. DH prefers it closed but I win on this one

Our bedroom door is always open. I do shut LO's door, just because she goes to bed before we do. She can open it all on her own. When LO #2 comes and goes in the nursery, the door will be closed until we go to bed, then opened up for the night.

Open. Only because DH always throws his towel over the door and I refuse to move it.

Partway open for our cat, who gets cranky if we close the door. I'm not sure what we're going to do when baby gets here and is rooming with us though.
