If you don't want your LO to know what you are talking about do you spell it out?
I don't a lot but occasionally I will to DH. Today I asked if he wanted to go to the P-A-R-K haha! My mom does it quite often to me when asking if the girls can have something, kind of silly but I appreciate it! That way there can't be meltdowns if the answer is no.

We spell the F word - fish, because if DD hears it she wants to watch Finding Nemo. We also spell walk, but that's for the dog's benefit.

we have to say the word either in greek, or in a completely convoluted descriptive way to avoid her figuring it out. P A R K sounds exactly like PARK PARK PARK!!! to her hahahah so we might say "would you like to take the child to the green place of natural childhood enjoyment with the structures of activity?" it becomes a competition between us as to how ridiculous we can make it sound!

Yes, frequently! We also give each other cryptic clues, for example Peppa Pig might be "the swine who is named after seasoning"and milk might be "udder juice".

We spelled until our daughter became too good at the words we were spelling (which were often words she had a vested interest in learning like ice cream!), then we would speak french, but now she is in french school and most often understands us. I speak pretty decent Spanish, which I would move on to next, but my husband barely understands! Ha. We need to take a language class together.

I spell out some words, but my sweet, occasionally thick headed DH will then say out loud what I've just spelled, so it's usually for naught. Me: lets go to the P-A-R-K. DH: what? You want to walk to the park? DD: PARK!!! YAY!!!! Go to park NOW PLEASE!

Apis - Bee (one of her favorite plushies)
Ursus - Pooh
Lactis - Milk
Stratum - Blanket
We hardly ever spell things out because my DH can't keep it straight. I've joked before that if I ever want to have a conversation with a friend in front of my DH and keep it secret, all I'd have to do is spell it out.

Hahah yes! Today I spelled out pony, because I was trying to tell my husband my daughter looked cute with her ponytail but didn't want her to catch on and rip it out.

@Cherrybee: @Oxana: Keep up the good work! hahahah I see it is a kind of mental exercise to stave away early on set dementia (parenthood induced). my brother tried to do it a while back when DD was a really into Frozen - "The Lady who lives in the fridge" WTF DUDE?? YOU LOSE! bahahaha

We spell out words or use French words. We weren't sure if we'd make it to the "bibliotheque" today so I didn't want to disappoint LO if I mentioned it and didn't go!

We do even though there's no point, haha. My oldest can read/spell, he says it out loud and then the younger two go crazy! But we've done it for so long that it's just out of habit.

Yup! Right now, he's been asking for candy on a daily basis and I'm fed up with it. So when I tell DH about it, we spell it out.
When we talk about milk, we refer to it as white stuff. Banana is yellow thingy. LOL!!
