DD is 6 weeks and we've been swaddling her but she seems hot when I wake up to nurse her. She's not sweaty, but the back of her neck is really, really warm. We have AC but our room on the third floor tends to be warm. I sleep with tank/shorts and no blanket even with the AC on so I'm guessing she has to be hot all swaddled up. She wears a onsie underneath. I want to ditch the swaddle but I think she does sleep a little better with it. Do you swaddle your summer baby? Do they get hot?

Yes it is hot here but we swaddle my 5 week old for naps and night. He wears a short sleeve onesie underneath. It is about 78 in our room where we sleep at night. He seems warm when he wakes up to eat but not hot. I think it helps him sleep a lot at this age!
We use a halo with the swaddle arms at night (easier diaper changes) so I wouldn't go only diaper because of the zipper.

Yes - she loves to be swaddled to sleep. But she has nothing underneath the swaddle except her diaper.

Diaper and swaddle. Or, now, diaper and Merlin suit. I do worry about the heat but I think she has gotten used to it.

Yes, diaper and light swaddle blanket. DD also gets a little hot, but she isn't comfortable without swaddling.

Yes and we don't have AC so temps are often crazy hot but she did fine with just a diaper and her swaddle. We didn't use blankets to swaddle but the summer infant swaddle me.

Absolutely. I was nervous about it at first, too, but a friend of mine told me she was in Haiti recently and all the newborns she saw were swaddled like crazy even though it was 90+ degrees and they slept beautifully. I think babies can tolerate a lot more than we think!

We used a woombie or peanut. Diaper, no onesie.

DS was a July baby in Texas and we swaddled. He ran warm in general, but we just kept the house cool and he wore a onesie.

@mrsjyw: arms up? Does he wake himself up with his arms out? We have the Halo swaddle where you can leave the arms out but DD's arms would be flailing all over the place!

We also did diaper only-swaddle. Arms up didn't work for us for weaning off the swaddle, so we switched to a Zipadee-Zip later on.

We also swaddled in just a diaper all summer long. Also had her sleep in a room with a fan. I think if she'd been in her room last summer I'd have gotten a stand fan for in there because her room is hot.

I keep DD in just a diaper with an A&A swaddle and our room has AC. Otherwise she is sweaty.

What kind of material are your swaddles?
Summer Infant has solid/ neutral color swaddles in Micro Fleece (7 to 14 lbs) and Cotton(14 to 20lbs). Would Micro Fleece be too hot for a warm-climate baby even if just in diaper?

@dolphin: the love to dream swaddle! I use the halo sleep sacks with arms as a backup but the love to dream one is the best one for him. It's cotton and light and he loves having his arms up and fisted, instead of the traditional arms down swaddled position.

@dolphin: the love to dream Swaddle UP is amazing!! It comes in a super light weight as well (although the regular ones aren't that thick)

@QBbride: I bought ours used from the Hb classifieds! Need to buy more though so I think I'm going to use a gift card and order from target soon. They are def pricey, but Ds sleeps best in them!
