I've noticed that some people will take their doctor's word as final, and others don't.

For example, on the subject of which foods you can eat or not during pregnancy, I've seen statements along these lines: "The doctor said that eating frozen yogurt from a machine during pregnancy was ok, so I've been eating it in moderation."

Others though will sometimes overrule the doctor: e.g. "My doctor said that frozen yogurt from a machine wasn't ok, but I looked it up and the main concern is listeria and my local yogurt place cleans the machines daily (I used to work there) and so I eat it daily."

What about you: do you take your doctor's word on an issue as final? Or do you take it as just one input into your decision?
