As in, let them pick out their own clothes? So far, I have almost always picked out my LOs' clothes, but my older LO (he's 5) is starting to express more interest in what he wears and will only wear certain things. I think I will take him along the next time he needs something, or wait to let him pick if I'm online shopping.

I do, and sometimes I have to have him try on pants.
The problem is though, that he sees all these other things he likes, like socks, underwear, and tees with thing on them....

DS is 7 and I have never taken him shopping in an actual store - but we have shopped online together.
DD just turned 5 and I took her to Target and man, oh man, she wanted all the dresses, all the headbands, all the stuff! It was fun since it was "new" but could get dangerous

Yes, I always include her. She's only 2 so she says everything is cute And she likes it, but I want her to feel like she has say over it.

DD is 15 mo so no, hah! I do look fwd to those mother/daughter shopping trips in the far future!

Its so hard to include DD (age 4.5) in shopping trips because she wants stuff that isn't practical (like an easter dress when she needs school shorts).
Sometimes I will do a large online order and let her choose 1-2 things from the order.

DD1 is 3 1/2 and VERY opinionated in her clothing choices (which at the moment alternate between 5 things.) So I told her for her spring/summer clothes she could go with me to the store and pick something out so I know I'm not wasting my money.

They usually come along with me as I browse, and I'll ask for an opinion. LO1 doesn't have many preferences and lets me dress him. LO2 is strongly opinionated and only wants clothes with trucks on them. We brought him to Carter's, and he had a great time picking out every pair of pajamas with construction vehicles on them.

@Mamaof2: @T.H.O.U.: he he, this is what I'm worried about with my daughter! So far, she is a very girly girl and wants all the pink and dresses and bows and bags.
@LuLu Mom: exactly, it's this "waste" that I hope to avoid with letting him pick out things he likes.
@yin: that's very cute.
@looch: pants are definitely tricky. I've made the mistake of eyeballing the size and then having to return them. I've learned my lesson and always take him pants shopping.

I rarely shop in stores, but I'll order things I like for LO and then let her pick when she likes from that. She has a lot of opinions about what she'll wear!

I do sometimes, because she is very picky already (age 2.5) and recently she has been refusing to wear some clothes that I pick out for her. We have better luck if I let her pick things. I only take her if she needs something (not just to browse) and I try to stick to only one or two stores.
