I usually prefer to just read the text and answer questions as they come up, but now I talk a bit more about the tricky words and concepts that come up. Like one book talked about how a wolf was slinking away, so I showed the kids what that might look like. Or we define words - I had no idea how many words were just sailing right over their heads!
All that said, I have a personal preference for just reading the words and not talking about it until after the reading is done! But I guess that's not how my kids learn.
