Only when I answer my hubby's phone because he's busy or she's already on the phone with the hubby and wants to talk to me briefly to see how I'm doing.

I do. We call each other and will do things together. I've gone to visit her overnight without my DH before. I also work less hours than he does, so when she visits I see her more.

She'll call me sometimes, but I really hate talking on the phone, and she hasn't caught onto that, yet. But, I do like hanging out with her...we'll go shopping occasionally.

Yep! We'll chat up to a couple times a week and email each other often at work. She lives out of state, but if she were in state, we'd probably hang out together with DH as well.

Nope, only if she calls me, and even then sometimes I let it go to voicemail I'm a bad DIL! We just don't have much in common (although you'd think her son and granddaughter would be enough, it's not LOL) and conversations are always strained an awkward. She lives far away so thankfully we've never had the opportunity to hang out just the two of us.

We see each other at least once a week. Either she will have DH & I over for dinner or I will stop by and let see LO for an hour or so then leave. We text about baby a lot and I send her pic texts every single day. Other than that....she's busy, I'm busy and that's why we don't talk much. It's nothing negative.

Not really. I have a few times recently when she's had specific questions about wedding stuff, but it's awkward. She calls SO a lot, almost every day, and if she can't get ahold of him, she will call me to find out what's going on. It's kind of annoying. Like, um, he's busy, when he gets your message he will call you back...

I've spent time alone with her before though and that's not as bad as talking on the phone. If we're visiting and SO is off doing something else, we'll hang out, chat, do a crossword puzzle, etc.

I've called her exactly once, dh was in the hospital with a kidney stone. Every once in a while I'll pick up his phone for him and she always asks 'who is this?' Like there are tons of other women that answer his cell.

No, but she texts me - mostly asking about the baby. I like her and all but don't really see a need to talk on the phone or hang out just the two of us.

Unfortunately i live with my in-laws. When it was just dh and I though she only contacted dh and not me. (this was pre-baby though)

Oh yes. all the time. Just last night we went shopping together. She often says she calls me because I'm nicer to talk to than DH! HAHA.

Yes, about three times a week. We text daily.

She lives two blocks away from me so I see her every day!

My MIL is in London, so we don't see her very often, but I'll talk to her on the phone for a little bit just to say hi and catch up when she calls DH or we call her.

There was a time when I spoke to my mother in law more often than my husband did. We had many interests in common and I really enjoyed talking to her. Eighteen months ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, kept the diagnosis secret for 3 months and said some hurtful things after telling us that she was terminally ill. All this really put a stop to our phone calls and damaged our relationship. She has since passed away, and while I miss the great conversations we used to have, the distance that grew between us over the months of her illness helped to soften the blow of her passing.
I'm not trying to bring the mood on here down, just hoping to maybe remind everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to talk to your mother in law while you can. I don't have anyone to talk to about things my husband did when he was my daughter's age...

occasionally but only on birthdays/anniversaries or after we've gone there for a holiday dinner, etc. she REALLY loves email.
