I didn't understand shopping organic before I got pregnant and thought it was dumb.
I shop almost exclusively at Whole Foods now.

Yes and no. I don't buy into "certified organic" but am a huge proponent of local certified naturally grown. We try but it's a little cost prohibitive to do it for everything.

They say the cost of organic will even out with your over better health costs.
With that - I still don't buy organic but I don't think it's lame either.

I find grocery shopping in general to be lame. We get a food box weekly that's all local and organic. It takes the pain out.

I don't think it's lame.... but I can't afford to shop all organic.

I thought it was silly before LO was born, now I try and buy organic when I can, and when I can afford it. It's definitely not all of our food though, that's not realistic for us.

Not lame but probably not necessary for everything. Our CSA starts soon. I am excited to see what we will get!

@Andrea: ooh I hope you love it! Where is the farm?

I don't think it is lame when it comes to certain foods, like meat, eggs, and the "dirty dozen" of produce. It is kind of scary how many chemicals go into the foods we eat and to think of them in iur bodies. That being said, I don't go to great extremes to eat ONLY organic foods and I don't worry about it too much. I definitely don't think people should worry about buying all organic if they can't afford it. It's more about being aware of what you are putting into your body.

@regberadaisy: Hope so, too! It is the Mighty Food Farm in VT? It's through DH's work so we didn't pick it.

I try to follow the dirty dozen and other important foods like eggs and milk.
I wish I could afford to shop all organic but it's really expensive and we have a hard enough time as it is curtailing our grocery budget.

@IRunForFun: I agree. Although I'm a huge proponent of organic, I also think that eating any vegetable over processed crap is wayyyy better!! It's more about making healthy choices. But I also agree on the chemicals front- it's scary stuff if you delve into learning about it! Sometimes ignorance is bliss

I am very conscious of my organic food choices. I have studied nutrition and holistic health and learned a lot about pesticides and how our food is raised/grown. I only buy organic meats/dairy/eggs and always buy organic produce from the dirty dozen. I sometimes buy conventional produce if it is on the clean 15, but generally not. It can get expensive, but I try to balance it by not buying processed foods and eating less animal products. Sometimes I feel like I'm in an episode of "Portlandia", but I can't unknow what I learned.

I don't think it's lame. I try to buy my meat, milk, eggs, and the "dirty dozen" list organic when I can. Which is why we don't eat meat as much anymore. But I don't shop at Whole Paycheck too much because it's ridiculously expensive.

I would rather buy local, non certified organic than imported organic. Certified organic is big business propelled in part by places like whole foods. I don't shop at whole foods for a number of reasons, one being not everything they sell is organic, and I don't see local options for in season items.

@IRunForFun: I agree with making better choices overall, not necessarily whether or not it's organic. A banana is much better than any processed food item, organic or not.

Not lame at all. However, "free range" is lame...unless the products are from a small, local farm where you know its ag practices.

@yoursilverlining: someone else that sees my point about "organic"!!!!

@mrsjazz: @JessKas: @Mrs. Pen: @IRunForFun: never heard of the dirty dozen! Going to look it up.
I buy organic eggs, milk, poultry (for so) as well as fruits/veggies without removable skins. Anything with a skin I don't bother - melons, avocado etc.

We buy organic dairy products, eggs, meat, and produce on the dirty dozen. I'm not militant about it.
