Our daycare has always been nut free even though there was no kid with any allergies. It's a small in-home with about 5 kids.

On Sept 29, we got sent home a letter that a kid with severe allergies would be starting at the centre on Oct 1. We are now no longer allowed to send anything containing dairy, eggs, tree nuts, seeds of any sort (I don't really even know what the heck that means), or soy to day care.

So of course I don't want to be the parent that kills somebody else's kid because my kid touches a surface with peanutbutter, but I feel kind of irritated about the whole situation.

1) Essentially one mid-week day to completely rejig your own kid's entire diet seems kind of ridiculous. N is 14 months old, and still usually drinks 2 milk bottles while she's at daycare, which seems unfair that I would have to immediately completely switch her to an alternative full stop. Not to mention that eggs and soy are in so much stuff that you wouldn't even think.

2) I understand the idea of privacy, but this is a five kid daycare, so it's obvious who it is. I think it would have been a nice thing for the parent of that kid to provide an actual detailed list of the specific things that are an issue, and maybe even provide us with a list of ideas of things we CAN bring. I would imagine her mom or dad has already done a fair bit of research into what to feed her kid, so it would make sense that we're not all re-inventing the wheel here, when they could just tell us what works, and what $12.00 jar of non-peanut butter I'm supposed to go buy.

Are my expectations completely unreasonable? I just feel like if I was this parent I would want to be a lot more helpful to the other 4 parents for both their sake and my own kid's.

Also - lunch ideas for a 14 month old that don't include eggs, dairy, soy, nuts or seeds.... and go!
