I'll be honest, I don't know! I mean, I hope he is, but how can you tell? He's reached his milestones at normal times, but smart? The jury is out on that one : ) He's 6.5 months.
Do you think your baby is smart?

I definitely think my LOs are smart, but how smart, not sure. DD is more "manipulative" than smart, haha. Typical girl.

She is ahead in her physical milestones but I dont think that necessarily makes her smart.
I don't think I will know til she is older!

Smart, hmm...I'd say mine is a sneaky little guy....he has the fake cry & pouty lip down-packed and he fake sleeps! He's only 7w..... is this a sign of what's to come in his teen years?

At that age my baby was clearly very curious and interested in the world and the people around her. These days she's even more so, so I think she's really smart.

Of course, he's a genius! DH already has him working on his physics homework. LOL eh, he's 6 months, he's drooling, pooping, laughing, he's the light of my life and that's all I need for now!!!

<----This lady is her mother, so yes, yes of course she is smart.
LO is super curious and hitting all her milestones. I think she's smart but I also think she's the cutest thing in the world, so I'm biased.

There are certain things he does that really amaze me!
Some examples:
- about 2 months ago we were reading a touch and feel animal book, his favorite page is the gorilla because it's really furry. When reading the book he always flips to that page to pet the gorilla. Fast forward maybe a week to another time we're reading books and we read an ABC book and the picture for "G" is gorilla and Cobi immediately reaches his hand to pet the gorilla, thereby associating that the real-life photo of the gorilla in the other book and the cartoon in this book were the same animal. I was amazed!
- He plays clever games: he will come up to me, act super sweet and lean in to give my kisses, as he is kissing me, he reaches one hand up, snatches my glasses and crawls away smiling. Seriously?!?!
His doctor said he definitely does seem smart for his age and given DH's education she wouldn't be surprised if he continues to excel

Charlie is a little ahead verbally. I think he is smart-ish.
Olive I'm not sure yet. She is really good at communicating her displeasure haha.

I can't tell because LO is so young. He's doing great with his milestones and is very curious. Of course being his mommy I think he is amazing! :).

The jury is still out. She's doing fine on her milestones, and some mommy friends seem to think she's pretty advanced. But then I see what other babies her age are doing, and I'm not so sure.

My son seems really curious, but also seems like he has ADD, constantly moving and engaging. But I just have no idea! My husband says he seems too happy to be super smart (he smiles ALL day long), LOL

Well, I think she’s brilliant, but then again I’m her mom so I’m biased! All the grandparents and her teachers at daycare comment on how smart she is…but again, not exactly neutral parties!
LO is very, very curious about everything in the world, which I think is a good sign. She is super well behaved out in public because she just loves to watch people and things. She watches people intently while they eat and when you talk to her if you repeat a sound several times she will try to replicate. My husband is ridiculously intellectual and I’m no dummy, so I think she stands a fair chance of being smart.
I feel like she is on target with her physical milestones; but I don’t know if she is ahead or not.

I'm not sure! I was convinced she'd be a baby genius, but she's almost a year and not walking, talking, or doing long division yet. So I don't know. I do think she's going to be funny and that's pretty important to me!

I think it's either too early to tell or LO is just pretty average at this point. She hits some milestones early, some on time and others a little later. My LO definitely knows how to 'work us' though which is always pretty amazing to me. She also knows that the glow from my cellphone means I came in the room. I can't tell you how many times I've peaked in to check on her thinking she was asleep, face my phone in her direction to see her better and then her head will shoot up to look at me.
@winniebee: I hate to admit ADD has crossed my mind with my LO too. I mean not in a serious sense, but sometimes it's just sooo hard to keep her on track like when she's eating or getting her to stay still long enough to change her diaper.
@Mrs. Pen: That's really really cool that he recognized the Gorilla!

DD is 2.5 y.o. so I think I can tell now. She seems super smart! She asks great questions, has a great memory and tells jokes, too.
This also means that she's always been quite a handful. She's never chill, but I guess I would rather her be smart!
pomelo / 5178 posts
Once they get to toddler age, it's a lot easier to tell. At 2.5, DD is reaching 3 and 4 year old milestones, so we hope to keep her on this advanced path. DS is only 8 months so it's a little harder to tell, but milestone wise he's doing 12 month stuff, so I think (hope) he'll be advanced, too.

My 3 year old is apparently good at math. My husband said the doctor was blown away at her counting skills yesterday. I guess they don't expect them to be able to count very high or associate counting with being able to tell how many things there are at her age. She has just always been into numbers and loved her counting books!
But she's average verbally and socially. (She's good at saying things but I don't think she always understands things she says. She cracked me up by saying the hotel room we stayed in this weekend was "palatial". I'm pretty sure that was just parroting Little Einsteins and she has no idea what it meant.) I also have friends with kids her age who are starting to write and can draw and she really can't do that yet.
Anyway, I think she's bright, but it's not like she's a super genius who will graduate from Harvard at the age of 12 or something.
