Do you tip for bad service at restaurants?
We had the rudest waitress a few weeks back. She wasn't indifferent, but straight rude. EX: When she sat us down, there was no greeting, but she just tossed a couple menus on the table and walked away. When I asked for a water refill, she rolled her eyes like I was asking her for the biggest favor ever. And when my dish came with something I specifically asked to be excluded, she got angry with me and told me that I should have told her beforehand (which I did!).
I totally did not want to leave her a tip at all, but DH thinks you should always tip, regardless of the service. He thinks the amount is negotiable, not the act of tipping itself.
What do you think?
I've never had someone as rude as that though, @MungBean:! that's crazy. Usually it's just incompetence or laziness, not rudeness, and we do give them a teeny tiny tip
