I've been using YNAB and very happy with it thus far.

I use Mint right now... Considering trying YNAB if I don't like it! It's only my 2nd month with Mint so I want to give it longer to see if their system works for me!

Thanks! I just signed up for Mint. Not I just gotta figure out how to use it!

@dolphin: I just started by linking all our accounts, and then going to the transaction page to make sure the categories are correct. And then I start creating budgets! Eventually I will be setting up goals!

Mint takes a while to get going. In the beginning you have to manually change the transaction categories and what not, but once you get things rolling, its really great. It took me 2 months or so to get everything set up the way I like, but now that we have it on all our devices, its really great to keep track of everything.

@locavore_mama: Ditto. YNAB. I like that my DH and I both have the app and it syncs everything up.

@dolphin: Mint and a good ol' fashioned pen and notebook It may be a bit archaic, but I feel like taking the time to write down the amount and subtract it from the appropriate category really forces me to understand our budget.

how much is the price range for either of these two- YNAB and Mint? I use a form I snagged off someones tutorial on HB but it would be nice to update it as we are out and about

Ynab is a one time 60 fee, but there are sales frequently.
Mint is free.

@sunset840: I got YNAB for $14.99
And I like that I don't have to give out any personal information.

I've used Mint for years (like 6 or so years--we must have been some of their first users) and love it. It helps us so much with budgeting, with keeping accountable to our savings goals and seeing progress toward savings and retirement goals.
It even helped me pay off my student loans by keeping me visually apprised of the progress I made chipping away at them (and by shaving spending in my budget that I only saw once we started tracking everything in Mint and moving away from using cash at all so we CAN track everything better).
It is also wonderful to have the transaction history there - DH's bank trashes his online account records after 3 years, and we've had to go back into Mint to check on some purchase history for an old business account of his (thank goodness we had that as a backup!! His bank was so unhelpful!)

@sunset840: I paid $30 for YNAB when it was on sale but it has changed our lives and I would pay the $60 for sure!

We used YNAB and mint in the past but didn't like them. Now we use goodbudget.
