We just bought an umbrella from Sam's it was the best purchase ever! We could all fit under it, which I like as opposed to the tents where they seem like they would get warm and not fit much.

Canopy. We fit extended family and friends under it too, and it gives the kids plenty of room in the shade to play.

Umbrella. I think from Bed Bath. They always have fun summer stuff. Plus there are always coupons.

@autumnlove: I just got a sun tent from Costco and it is awesome! I read reviews on amazon that were mixed and some said the costco one was bigger and cheaper. Someone said it was hard to "pop up" if you were short. That person must be the weakest person on earth or have a defective one bc it is so super easy. The poles are attached to the tent and you just open it up easy peasy like an umbrella. It's easy to set up and take down and super light. The amazon reviews said the most annoying thing is all the people that will approach you to talk about the tent. So true bc I saw it at the splash park and talked to the mom who had it and told me she got it at costco. It's $40 I think
ETA: it's this brand. It's so much cheaper at costco but doesn't have that fold out extended part past the tent which is fine with me

We have a tommy Bahamas sun umbrella and we use it sooooo much! It is super easy to pack up and tote around, so we take it everywhere! The spray park, back yard, beach, etc. It spikes I to the sand and stays put.

@sandy: I almost harassed someone on the beach about this! I'll look for it at Costco!

@birdofafeather: my biggest concern was if it would be heavy or cumbersome to put together. I watched DH do it and was like "am I going to struggle with it" and he said "only if you are suffering from a concussion". It is so super easy and is super lightweight. And it's big! I'm planning to use it this summer with my LO at the beach and hoping to use it next summer to let baby #2 nap while LO and I are at the splash park

@sandy: Ha! Our last "pop up" from rei took 2 of us 30+ minutes to set up. We never used it so it got returned.

@birdofafeather: I've seen many a mom assembling their sun tents at the splash park and it looks like an ordeal! This takes a few seconds...like unfold it and pop it up...same with taking it down.
