I just googled and got emoji keyboard set up on my iphone. It was so easy and quite entertaining and bonding for DH and I. So I am sure to be annoying by throwing emoji into my work group texts and all. How come I just found out about this now?! Tell me I am not the last one to do this or the only one using them. Also if you don't have an iphone can you still see them?
Eta: for those of you who want to expand your playful expression go to Settings-General-Keyboard-Keyboards. Add emoji and click the globe the next time your keyboard comes up.

they are fun! though some ppl can't see them, i sent something that was meant to be sarcastic to mr. bird last year and put a laughing emoji face next to it... his phone didn't get the laughing face and he thought i was serious, whoops!

Totally use emojis all the time in my texts! They add that extra oomph to my expressions. Especially the eye rolls, the mad face ones, etc.
DH has a Samsung and he can see all my emojis.

Last year I didn't have a smartphone (too frugal) so every time someone would emoji text me, my old phone would get an error message and I was left in the dark. Missing texts was the deciding factor to get a smartphone. But by then I had trained most of my friends not to text me with 'those little emoticons' so maybe that's why I am not on the receiving end of emoji.
I hope to be in the future since I am now be fully equipped to initiate and send out.

Yes! Only with a few people tho and I use the same ones all the time cause I'm too lazy to look up new ones!
ETA - I also always wonder, can people who don't have emoji installed on their phones see yours?

Occasionally. My mom always signs her texts with the grandma emoji. She uses it way more than both my DH and I do.

Yes. I installed them a few months ago. Just put them on DH's phone for him and he is so hilarious using them.
