When DD was a baby we used babyganics wipes. Now that's she's 2.5 we started using hand sanitizer like Purrell on her. Are alcohol based sanitizers safe for kids? She doesn't stick her hands on her mouth or anything. What do you use to clean your LO's hands when you are out and about?

Very rarely liquid hand sanitizer. Usually Wet Ones wipes or baby wipes if we can't use soap and water.

I have Babyganics (alcohol free) foaming stuff that I put on when we're out of the house and they get messy/gross (or touch animals or something). I prefer washing with soap and water, though.

Sometimes but rarely... Like if we are at the doctor and they have some he always wants a little squirt. Or when we were in the city and it seemed dirty I was loading him up, haha!

Not often but I will in certain situations- sometimes combined with a wipe. If she touched stuff on public transportation or we were someplace extra germy during cold and flu season, I will. I usually do wipes as well though since I feel like that actually removes dirt, or especially after meals.
Obviously soap and water is preferred.

Nope, I'm not a fan of them really. I always have wipes with us and we use that to clean her hands if we don't have access to a bathroom.

No, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it if we needed to wash hands and couldn't use a sink for whatever reason.

Only very rarely, like if he's sharing toys with a kid who seems sick. Isn't there some research suggesting that using too many sanitizers contributes to superbugs and doesn't do your immune system much good in the longrun?

Nope, I don't "believe" in it. I think it's overused, so I rarely use it (maybe once or twice a year?). I feel like exposing my kids to small amounts of germs and bacteria strengthens their immune systems... I'm probably 100% scientifically wrong, but meh.

Not on a regular basis but I have used it on occasion when we are out and he's touched something dirty or an animal, or if I have nothing else on hand and he's going to eat.

Just if we've been at the children's farm near my parents place...they have hand sanitizer at the door.

No, I never use it on myself or LO. I don't think they really work, and good old soap and water works just fine. I am also ok with germs. LO is rarely sick.

@HabesBabe: I'm with you. Hand sanitizer is so overused! And scientifically, it is actually good for immune systems to have exposure to germs here and there and to learn how to fight them off. We shouldn't be trying to kill everything they're exposed to.

Yes if needed; we have the babyganics individually wrapped ones.
