I do not, but I should start. I love using the plastic bags for other things though like diapers, bathroom trash, cat litter etc. So at least I'm getting more uses out of them.

I do all the time BUT if I'm stopping on my way home to grab 1 or 2 things I get a plastic bag for the kitty litter.
apricot / 452 posts
I do, but I have to. The stores in my area are not allowed to use the plastic bags and we have to pay ten cents for paper bags. I liked getting the plastic bags since I also reused them but now I can't get them.
grapefruit / 4903 posts
We do. We had reusable shopping bags with our commissioned family crest made for our wedding out of town bags. We had extras and use them all the time.
pomegranate / 3314 posts
Almost always, but if I forget I reuse them in the same ways that you do.
pomelo / 5228 posts
Yep, its illegal to give out plastic bags in the city of Seattle! Paper bags cost 5c I believe.
bananas / 9973 posts
I do, but only for groceries. I always forget at places like Target.
eggplant / 11824 posts
I do; I hate how you buy 15 items and they put them into like 8 plastic bags. So wasteful and annoying. Plus our city is going to start charging $.10 for plastic bags.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
I do. In my city, any bag costs 5 cents, but you get 5 cents back for every bag you bring and I love saving those few cents. If I go to Trader Joe's or Target in Virginia (where bags are free), I get bags - we use paper to take out our recycling and plastic for our bathroom trash, so it's handy to have a few around.
grapefruit / 4400 posts
No But like @Bao: we re-use the plastic bags for our wastebaskets, dog poop, REALLY stinky diapers, and other odds and ends around the house. I really don't see us changing our habits soon, unless there's a ban in our city/county.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Nope. I have them, I just always, always forget them. It doesn't really make it better but we try to reuse them at least once.
apricot / 329 posts
We almost always bring reusable shopping bags, in part because our city is one of the many in CA that has banned plastic bags and requires merchants to charge $.10 per recycled paper bag. Once a month or so we just buy the paper grocery bags so we have something to take the recycling down to the bins for our apartment building.
Now, whenever we travel we bring back the plastic bags we get like they're contraband, so we can reuse them in all the ways you don't even realize you need them until they're gone!
cantaloupe / 6171 posts
We do if we know we're going shopping, but if we stop at a store on a whim we don't have them. If we had a car we'd keep them in the trunk to use, but we dont regularly carry them around
grapefruit / 4731 posts
The cities in our area are charging 10 cents for them if you don't. I try to remember them but sometimes I forget and have to pay for that 10 cents.
pineapple / 12053 posts
i do, but sometimes i forget to put them back in my car. i've been trying to reuse them at retail stores as well. sometimes if my stuff is small enough, i'll just put the items into my diaper bag!
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
I never remember to take them, but I do have a few. My county is one of the few in the area that hasn't outlawed them yet.
honeydew / 7687 posts
Yep. I get really frustrated when I see people throwing loads of them out.. my parents at least try to recycle and reuse theirs (they're horrible at remembering to take reusable). I wish it would catch on in the Midwest to ban them.
pear / 1609 posts
I do if I remember. I reuse the plastic bags for my bathroom trash. When I go to trader joes I never bring bags because they give me paper and I use the paper bags to hold the recycles under the counter, because a trash can won't fit!
blogger / clementine / 998 posts
i do but I like having the plastic bags to line my garbage cans. also there was some big news a while back that reusable bags contained lead, both in the plastic re-enforcement at the bottom, and in the paint! I don't think there are any standards they have to conform to, and there's no way of knowing!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Mrs. Chipmunk: That is a good point, I hate those stupid cheap reusable ones made of.. weird felt stuff that I think you're referencing. They end up in the trash anyways!! Which is a shame, because they're given out/sold so many places.
I love our envirosax http://www.envirosax.com/ and a bunch of random cotton canvas totes.
clementine / 797 posts
I bought some from Trader Joe's. I like them but don't use them as often as I should. I often forget them at home. I try to ask for paper bags when I forget them so I can reuse/recycle the paper bags.
nectarine / 2220 posts
Yep. I remember them probably 90% of the time, and reuse the bags that I do accumulate to line bathroom trash and take lunches to work.
pineapple / 12566 posts
Always. I keep them in the stroller. I actually buy real trash bags to use around the house.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
Yup, I have them in my car so I always have them.
I can remember when I got to grocery stores but I always seem to forget my target reusable bags.
I've a bit obsessed with collecting reusable bags. I probably have about 20. I bought the insulated ones but the thinner ones I got most of them for free.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
I buy regular trash bags as well...I got into the habit when I lived abroad as you have to use specific bags for trash.
All my reusable bags come from Swiss grocery stores. They're made from recycled plastic bottles too!
watermelon / 14206 posts
I never remember to bring them, although I do have them. I use the plastic bags for a lot of things, too, though, and recycle them when they get too much.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
I do about 80% of the time. I keep the bulkier ones in the back of my car for groceries and I have a few that roll up into little balls that I keep for other shopping. We do reuse the plastic bags that we get for various things like PPs said.
eggplant / 11408 posts
Usually! We are good about remembering them for groceries, but not so good at other places. I like Target's plastic bags, though. They are a really good size for lining trash cans.
honeydew / 7909 posts
I do if I remember but that's rare!
I have a ton of plastic bags that we use for bathroom garage, diapers and cat poo.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Nope because like you, I use them to line my bathroom trash cans and use them to store stuff, etc.
If I go to Aldi, I bring reusable bags because they don't give you anything to take your groceries home in!
papaya / 10343 posts
We do when we shop at Trader Joe's for the bulk of our groceries, but we do not when we shop at the normal grocery for extra items (which amounts to a few plastic bags/week, if that). We like having some plastic bags around for DH's lunch and various other home stuff.
nectarine / 2433 posts
Yep! We keep them in the car so we pretty much always have a few with us but if I stop on the way home from the office I usually have to get plastic. We do what pp's said and reuse the plastic bags for garbage.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I have so many bags but I always forget to either take them in the car, or if they're in the car, actually bring them into the store!
