@hellobeeboston: I way more inundated with this sort of marketing since becoming a mom. I resent the social pressure and have removed many people from my FB feed as a result. I especially hate when someone's mommy hood is highlighted as though that should influence my decision to buy their product.

Sorry for the rant but I feel strongly about not supporting this kind of activity. The product would need to have merit on its own AND be worth the price. And if it was, then why wouldn't it be sold via normal retail channels without all this hassle?

By the way, I hate gift cards too! They are a financial scam from retailers to coerce people into tying up their money!

@Boogs: I don't personally think it works. I've been trying the eye cream and am extremely disappointed. I know one person who has made this a serious full time job, on the side of her other full time job. I don't understand it.

@mediagirl: A few good eye cream options to try: (1) Neocutis Lumiere Bio-restorative Eye Cream (about $50); (2) Philosophy's Miracle Worker (about $60); and (3) Roc Retinol Correxion Sensitive Eye Cream (a steal for $20).

I've seen results from friends but I can not justify spending that much money when my current stuff works just fine!

@Boogs: I have not tried R+F but I do have about 5 friends that sell it. Some have had good results and some are just "meh" about the results. Especially when you factor in the cost!

My sister tried Arbonne (sp?) and the whole set was about $250 for maybe 2 months supply. While she liked it - she could not say for sure that it was worth it!

Not that I have perfect skin but I use Clinique products and always have - I have never had an issue with them or their choice of ingredients. I use their liquid cleanser ($17 for 3 mos worth) and their turnaround line which is a bit more expensive ($40 for the night cream, $40 for the facial mask and $44 for the concentrate - though I am trying out the day lotion instead of the concentrate which is $34). So my clinique regime is about $140-150 for 2-3 months and I have rec'd numerous comments since switching to the turnaround line - I dont have acne issues but it has def made my skin more 'radiant'.

@Boogs: My mom is selling it and using it. I had to reluctantly tell her yesterday that I saw no difference in her wrinkles from 5 weeks of treatment. She had taken some before photos for comparison. Her skin looks good otherwise -I think she is using one of their exfoliating products too. Doesn't seem worth the cost I am hearing about. Id love to start a better skin regime myself but am hesitant to buy into these types of things or product lines promising over the top results.

@Boogs: a friend of my sil mentioned working for them. i know so little about it though? she thinks she will be able to replace her income with selling for them by the summer though. ??

@looch: I dont sell it but I do "sell" for another direct selling company...although I really just do it to get a discount on the jewelry!

I have to say, from what I have seen if you are going to sell something and make money on it it has to be something people need to re-order. Makeup/Skincare/Household cleaning...not something like ThirtyOne/Jewelry/Scentsy. I know women do well selling that stuff but I think it takes more effort and being outgoing with securing hosts/hostesses.

If you get someone hooked on mascara (like the new craze Younique) - boom you have yourself a $30 order everything 3 months when theirs runs out. However, with other items (jewelry, bags, wax warmers) there is no guarunteed need to re-order so I think it takes more.

Most of these companies, the commissions are 20-30% of sales. If you are an R+F consultant who gets say 3-5 friends hooked on the products you could easily have $1000-1500 in orders quarterly as they replenish their skincare lines...which means $250-$400 a quarter in income. Just from a few people. I think for someone trying to make a business out of it these are things to consider...

However, there are a lot of people like me who do it for the discount or simply because we love the product...not to try to earn an income...

@looch: I dont know, the company I sell for does not operate as a pyramid so I have no pressure to recruit. From what I have seen from the others its your choice to recruit or not...just again would impact your income (just yours sales at 25%ish vs that plus a handful of other ladies/men at 3-5%)...

@T-Mom: the before and after pics look good because the are photoshopped. At least the ones on my timeline. I have very beginner lever photoshop skills and can spot it almost every time. I always look at the whites of the eyes of the after pic. If they are brighter/whiter it's a clear telltale of a photoshop app. (One that I admit I use! But I'm not touting miracle skin either. I'm just vain).

@looch: From what I've been told, you make almost nothing just selling the product. You have to get a group of people selling underneath you and then get them to get a group under each of them, and so on. There are 3 women I went to high school with that have quit their real jobs because they're making so much more, and one was a dentist. But you basically have to sell your soul and harass everyone you know to sell under you, so I guess you have to be absolutely shameless. I've never been approached to buy the product, but I'm constantly being called or texted or PM'd to sell.

@BananaPancakes: That's what I have thought as well, that you basically recruit, and then when your recruits buy the "kit" or whatever it is, that's how you get paid.

I have zero interest and maybe I am missing the boat, but something about the way it is all orchestrated doesn't sit well with me. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that you can be your own boss and work when you want, but they are constantly talking about how much money they're making, how they are on track to get a Lexus, etc, it's just unusual.

Man, I'm actually okay with a lot of these other brands being sold because the people I know that rep them aren't constantly posting about their income and spamming FB with before and afters of people's faces. I feel like I'm being sold being a rep instead of being sold on the product itself.

That was the link I found just doing a google search. The last page has a summary - retail profits are 25% which is generally your own sales. The other stuff below it is your team.

I agree - the minimums can be annoying but looks like its only $100 a month for R+F which really wouldnt be hard to maintain if you are actually making an effort (not a discount consultant like me! :))

@birdofafeather: I dont mind people selling products on FB and honestly I like supporting my friends and some of these products are really good products. Plus - its easy to hide posts if you dont want to see it. When people start hounding me about becoming a rep is when I get annoyed and usually respectfully let them know I am not interested. It usually works fine!

@ElbieKay: I'm really anti multi level marketing companies too, and the mommyhood thing is what REALLY gets under my skin. Like it's somehow my responsibility to support these women in these businesses because it allows them to stay home with their precious child. It's not my fault you chose to be a stay at home mom when you can't actually afford to be.

@Mrs D: same. I hate when people group all direct sales together.

I use ava anderson and joined because of the discount - I fell in love with the products. I don't do it to make a living, for sure. and yes, the skin care set (and changing my makeup - don't discount what an impact that has on one's skin!) made a massive difference.

@Mrs D: at the bottom of the page it says those figures are for illustrative purposes only. They state 10% on that same page as well as the last page.
