We use hotwire when we need to find a hotel in a larger city. It's one of the sites where you don't know what you are getting until after you've selected & agreed to pay. There are message board sites that give you a list of hotels you're likely to get based on the hotwire details given before you buy... so it's not too much of a gamble!

I love travel sites! I use Kayak to search airfares and Tripadvisor for hotels - I love how these sites aggregate fares from lots of other sites so you can shop for the best price.
