I would like to own a house near the beach. It doesn't have to be on the beach. I would be okay with driving about 20 minutes to get to the beach.

By your definition, we will be buying a beach house. I can't think of anywhere that we would live that's more than 20 minutes from the ocean!

We are very lucky that my grandmother has a cottage right on the beach - it's about a 10 minute drive from our house. During the summers I pretty much live there and schedule my life around the tide & moon times!

Absolutely! We're actually considering buying a lake house, though we'd live there full time.

We live about 10 minutes from the beach right now - but we'd love to have a vacation property somewhere where it's warm all the time one day! My husband especially! He's not a fan of cold, long winters.

I'd prefer a mountain home with ski in and out privileges only because the hubby and I prefer the snow. If we were more beach people, heck yea we would!!

Our plan is to one day, I hope it happens sooner rather than later!

Nah probably not. My parents have one and no one really goes there.. mountains though, absolutely!

I would love to buy a crappy house somewhere on the panhandle of Florida and renovate it. There are a lot of cheap houses in that area if you are willing to do work/live in a more remote area. I prefer the quieter beach towns....we talk about doing this sort of thing a lot!

Not really a beach house by the usual sense, but I would love a house right on a nice lake/river up north!

We want to buy a vacation property, it might not be on a beach, but it will hopefully have some water on it or nearby. That's about 10 years away though.

Yes, especially if we live within a short-ish drive and would be able to use it frequently. I guess it depends where we end up living though.

Yes and no. We live close to the beach so I know how beautiful it is..... but I also know the price of taxes and the crappy hurricane season stress they have to deal with.

Yes! I want my children and grandchildren to come and spend their holidays and summers at my beach house.

My mum owns a cottage right on the lake. It's a little over an hour from where we live. We've had it for 26 years, so I grew up spending every summer there and the plan is for it to stay in our family for a very long time. DH and I can't wait to bring the baby there this summer

Nope. We'd much rather have a house on a lake, or in the woods. We're not really beach people.

For sure! Sadly, the one I want was last listed at $11m, so I think it might be a while...
@artbee: We do, too. Insurance (or, you know, lack of it) is basically a deal breaker until we can pay 100% cash. Preferably for that $11m house by the sea!

My parents have an awesome 8 bedroom 10 bath beachouse on the jersey shore and I will inherit it along with my 3 siblings.
If I were going to buy my own vacation home, I wouldn't buy a beach house since I already have one - I would probably buy a lakefront house in the Poconos or something so it would be good for both summer and winter.
