My mom and I always argue about this. I don't wash my meats before I cook them but my mom thinks it's unsanitary. I don't see how rinsing your meat would make it any cleaner. I also read somewhere that it is not necessary to rinse meat/poultry.

I do, not sure if it's necessary but it doesn't take long so I just do it. It makes me feel like it's cleaner.

I used to, but I recently found that FDA does not recommend it because cooking kills bacteria and washing spreads it.

I don't because I've heard it isn't good to do. I still rinse out the cavity of a whole chicken though. I just feel like I have to!

I generally don't rinse my meats. The only exception is beef short ribs. They're usually cut on a band-saw, so I have to rinse off the bone dust that sticks to the cut pieces.
Also, for any meats/poultry that I plan on giving a good sear or want crispy skin on, I try and dry out the surface as much as possible.

@squid: you're right. We should do it with short ribs. My husband braised some a while back and we found all these little bone pieces in the sauce.

@Mrs. Jacks: I think I read the same thing. I do still rinse the cavity of a whole chicken though, but the whole time I'm thinking of the germs I'm splashing around. Other than that don't rinse anything.

@Mrs. Jacks: THIS!
I do not wash meat/poultry because it make your kitchen DIRTIER. I do wash fruit and veggies.

@Mrs. Jacks: I didn't know this!
We usually rinse poultry but not beef but maybe we'll change that. We started rinsing it when my MIL came over one day and was confused about why we didn't rinse our chicken.

Nope. I let it thaw in the fridge and I pat it dry with a paper towel before I season it, though. I don't like the raw juices dripping everywhere.

I used to but my mom read about how rinsing just spreads everything so now I don't.
My mil does but she scrubs the whole kitchen after.

Yes, I don't rinse ground meat but I rinse everything else.

I always wash my skin-on chicken. I actually soak it in salt water and lemon juice. With beef, I let it be unless it's ribs and it looks like there's bone pieces.
