I got the surgery. Best thing ever! My kids will definitely need glasses, too.

I've had glasses from age 6 to now (29). My vision just started settling down so I may be a candidate for the surgery. Will probably wait a little longer though.
DH went to see if he was eligible for the surgery a few years ago. While they were checking him out, they found he had detached retinas in both eyes. One was crazy bad and they did surgery and had to insert a silicon band, the other eye they corrected with a laser. So, his vision is now even worse than before and he can never get LASIK. Total bummer, but they never would have caught it if he didn't go in!

I wear glasses. Have never worn contacts. I plan to get Lasik someday!

I have never worn glasses or contacts. My husband has since he was a kid and I don't think he can get the surgery because he has an astigmatism. He wears contacts though. Obviously it's not his fault, but I always hope our kids won't need glasses so early!

I've been wearing glasses since the 5th grade. I wear contacts, but only sometimes (specifically for swimming, skiing, etc). I have no intention of getting the surgery - I like the way I look in glasses. Plus I know someone who's eye got messed up from the surgery, so I'm too scared to do it, haha.

Hubs also has bad vision, so our kids are screwed. Sorry kids!

I got LASIK in 2007 and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It is so incredibly freeing to not have to worry about glasses/contacts. I highly recommend!

I got glasses in the 6th grade. I probably will never get the surgery because I love them! I don't even really wear contacts very often.

I got glasses in 3rd grade. I switched to contacts in 6th grade when I was getting SCUBA certified. Now I alternate between contacts and glasses, though I typically stick to glasses because I'm lazy.

@JerricaBenton: I have astigmatism and got the surgery. Changed my life! I had really bad vision before. If your husband really wants it, he should get checked out.

I got glasses when I was in the 4th grade. I begged my parents to let me have contacts in high school. I wore contacts throughout high school and college. Now that I have a desk job where I stare at 2 computer monitors all day, I absolutely cannot wear contacts - they bother the heck out of me!! I live in my glasses. I would eventually like to look into getting lasik but it's not a huge priority right now.

I have worn glasses since I was 7 years old. My eye doctor recommended I wait until I'm 25 to look into surgery (which is in March). Once we get settled in to a house and some debt paid off both DH and I hope to get the surgery.

I'm horrible with touching my eye so contacts freak me out. But I did tell DH I'll probably put non-prescription lenses in my glasses and wear them sometimes.

I wear glasses and contacts. Contemplated lasik a while back and DH talked me out of them. Now, I think I'm going to wait 'til we're done baby making and then get it done... my eyesight is horrible!

I started wearing glasses in 3rd grade, contacts in 8th grade, and my eyesight was pretty terrible by the time I was an adult. Like, can't read the alarm clock or see pretty much anything without glasses or contacts. Contacts started really bugging me in my mid to late 20s, and while I liked my glasses, I did not like being SO dependent on them. When I was a camp counselor, taking the kids swimming really freaked me out because I felt like I couldn't watch them well enough.

I had Lasik done when I was 28 and it was one of the best things I've done. They told me since my eyes were so bad, I had a slightly increased risk of my eyesight still not being perfect and needing glasses or a slight adjustment after. This was the case and now I need my glasses for driving, movies, and powerpoint type presentations, but not for day to day stuff. Even knowing that, I would 110% do it again, since now I don't NEED them, and I can comfortably do anything except drive without them.

If you are considering it, a few things to note: they recommend not doing it right before you get pregnant or right after, as the hormones can cause your eyes to do some weird things and it just wouldn't be the best time to do it. Also, I've heard waiting until your late 20s is better, but if you get it done later, like mid 30's on, they sometimes will undercorrect one eye so you can go longer before needing reading glasses-- which almost everyone will at some point. I'm SO happy I had it done.

Started wearing glasses in grade three and switched to contacts around high school. Would love LASIK but terrified ill be that .0001% that goes blind from it!

DH and I both have perfect vision, and we're both the only ones in our family that don't need glasses (parents and siblings ALL need them)

I'm sure sooner or later we'll need glasses, but we're almost 30 and still going strong. I'd bet DD will need glasses someday too.

@Coco Bee: Your eyes are still changing and vision is more likely to shift before that. But obviously, that isn't the case for everyone, I just felt like being as conservative as possible.I think I remember hearing after 25 was recommended. Something to ask at your evaluation, if and when you go. If your vision hadn't changed in years, then it probably wouldn't matter. Mine didn't stabilize until my late 20s.

I've been wearing glasses since second grade and contacts on and off since 6th grade. I've been told I can't get LASIK bceause my pupils are too large? IDK, it was just an offhanded comment an eye doctor made a long time ago. At any rate, I can't afford it and it's pretty low on the list of priorities, but man would it be nice to not be blind before getting my contacts in.

@JerricaBenton: How long ago did he go? When I first went (about 10 years ago) I was too young and didn't qualify due to my astigmatism. The technology advancements in the past decade though have been amazing and now they are able to treat a lot more patients than in the past. He should try again!
