.... if you don't have skinny legs?
I so want to wear them with tall boots - love that look - but my thighs aren't agreeing

I don't. I have big hips and skinny jeans just make them look even bigger, so I avoid them at all costs...

I definitely don't have skinny legs and I wear 'em. I tend to pair them with either tunics or longer shirts/blouses so they cover more
persimmon / 1328 posts
I don't wear skinny jeans as they make my legs feel claustrophobic (I know, weird) but I wear leggings all the time! Always with a long top, but it doesn't cover the thighs. I am a UK size 12 so not skinny.
persimmon / 1177 posts
I have big thighs/hips and still wear skinny jeans! I think with the tall boots and a longer shirt it sort of balances everything out so your hips/thighs don't look as big.
I do struggle with skinny jeans with flats or other shoes, I feel like it really makes my ankles/calves look tiny compared to the rest of my legs.

I am no longer wearing them, they don't do anything for my pear shaped self. I tried, I really did.

I like them for this reason weirdly. I carry my weight in my thighs, butt, and hips. So I like to wear dark colored skinny jeans (blue or black) with a striped or printed shirt that is a little roomier and boots. I think it gives more balance to my figure. That said, I hate how they look without boots on.

Yep, I carry weight in my booty and thighs but as long as I wear a shirt that covers part of my butt I think it looks fine and get compliments.

Haha this is so funny to me because I have chicken legs & that's why I DONT wear them. I think fuller figures look better in them! I also have some 9.5/10 feet & I feel like skinnies make them look even bigger lol anyway, I guess I'm saying, rock those skinnies girl!
bananas / 9229 posts
I have tree trunk legs plus am all of 5'3" and I still rock the skinnies!
persimmon / 1396 posts
I wear them with tall boots only. I think that the boots balance everything out.

You could always try jeggings. I find them more forgiving in the appropriate size.
Personally I have skinny legs, so I wear them all the time. But I don't like them skin tight. I also prefer mid to high waisted.

I have huge thighs and a big butt and i loveee wearing skinny jeans.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
nope! i have tried them many time over the years and never like them on me, even when i was actually skinny (pre-baby).
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
Yes. My legs are definitely not the skinniest but I don't give an F!
pomegranate / 3863 posts
No to skinny jeans but I do wear straight leg jeans. My thighs and calves are so large they fit more like skinnies
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
Yes I love them! I even converted most of my work dress pants to skinny dress pants.
Maybe it's a regional thing (Charleston SC) but I have not even laid eyeballs on a person in something other than skinny jeans in as long as I can remember. Everyone wears skinnies and I don't even think about it.... My little sister went shopping with me and tried on a million pairs of jeans. She opened the dressing room door and was wearing a very flattering boot cut jean and even though they looked good on her, it looked so "off" to me seeing that cut. I actually told her she couldn't get them, that I was worried they would be a waste of money because I feel like no one wears them anymore. She said where she lives, in MS, people still do wear them. She ended up getting skinnies (which looked killer) but it made me wonder if certain areas are more/less "into" certain trends....

Yep! I have big hips, thighs, and a butt and I always thought they would look terrible on me. But when I actually tried them, I found that I look really good in them (so long as I wear a longer, tunic-type shirt.

Yes! I have short muscular legs (okay, not so muscular these days) but i wear them anyways.

@Bubbles: UK size 12/US size 8 is pretty slim even though the media tries to convince us otherwise
bananas / 9628 posts
fatty here & i'm wearing jeggings with boots right now! i wear a top that covers my booty and boots usually
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
If you can find some that are comfortable for you to wear, I say go for it! I'm all about women of any shape wearing skinny jeans. I carry my weight in my belly so I always try to wear a shirt or tunic over my skinny jeans that comes down to at least my crotch.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@plantains: @Bubbles: perception is everything. I'm a size 10 US and I consider myself skinny! That being said, I don't follow celebrities or fashion, I just compare myself to the general public.
pomegranate / 3375 posts
I do. I'm a size 8/10, so maybe I *shouldn't*. But, I like them!! I always wear boots or flats, and I prefer the look of skinnies.

I am pear shaped and have a big butt and thighs. I was scared of skinny jeans for a long time, but now I wear them. I say go for it.
pear / 1787 posts
I'm far from skinny and I almost exclusively wear skinny jeans with boots! I just wear a looser or longer shirt up top and have no qualms about it. If someone thinks I am not skinny enough for skinny jeans, that's their problem.
@plantains: @Bubbles: agreed!!! i was going to say this! UK12 is my dream size.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@PrincessBaby: that's interesting about trends in different parts of the country...I also think there are some people that just age out of trends, like myself. I know what works on my body shape, regardless of the size I am...I am the same pear shape regardless of size 4 or 10.
I personally think it has less to do with size than body type. If it works on your body type, go for it! It's just frustrating for the rest of us that it doesn't flatter when there's no other styles in the store.

I'm a 14 with a big ass... Don't consider myself fat (just a little fluffy), still wear skinnies. I just wear them with longer shirts.
I have no shame about my big butt/hips/thighs though. I like to emphasize the badonk. I love my ass.
bananas / 9973 posts
@PrincessBaby: ditto.
Although I have to say in our area I would not even consider skinny jeans a trend. They're a basic. I feel like different jeans tend to age women - looking older? IDK, but I'm short and I feel like skinny jeans are the most flattering.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
I am plus sized and I learned how to make skinny jeans work for me. They are one of those things that you gave to put together properly in terms of coverage/balance but I think they CAN look awesome on any body shape with the right top/shoes/accessories.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@shopaholic: @PrincessBaby: I find it really interesting that you guys say this because I was JUST reading the other day about how the skinny is dying. Sales are down and fashion is trending towards more trouser and boyfriend fits. I've seen that trend both when I lived in England and here in the Midwest.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@loveisstrange: I tend to wear more boyfriend cuts these days too although the distressed relaxed skinny is my favourite. I like them right in between skinny and boyfriend for a more polished look.
persimmon / 1147 posts
I have a few pairs but honestly they are far from favorites. My body type (prepregnancy!) was what I would call "athletic" with a small waist but muscular legs and thighs. They never fit on top of they fit the legs and always made me feel extra self conscious no matter what I paired them with. I say wear what you feel good in!
watermelon / 14467 posts
I like them and my one pair of jeans is a skinny jean. I wear boots/flats with my jeans and I like that the back of my jeans are never wet when it's raining/snowing.
eggplant / 11716 posts
I don't have thin thighs and I wear skinny jeans. BUT I avoid the tightest, skinniest around the ankle jeans because they do tend to make my thighs look huge.
clementine / 849 posts
I only wear skinnies. And I'm a size 14.
I think the key is getting the RIGHT size for you, with plenty of stretch!
