I'm in desperate need of winter boots, but I want something at least somewhat fashionable. However, it's also important to me that I don't fall on my butt in snow or ice! I walk a lot, but in a city so it is usually cleared pretty well...I hear uggs are not good for snow, but they are really the only cute snow boots I've been seeing! So, do you wear them in snow? Or have you found an alternative?

I have uggs and love them for cold dry days. But they are horrible in the rain, ice, and snow. For real winter weather I wear my hunter rain boots with fleece wellie socks. I would Also check out sorel for boots.

I have off brand Uggs. Well, they are Bearpaw brand, so they were still not cheap. I wear them in the snow!

I wear Uggs sometimes, and I agree, they are awful in the snow!
My favorite boot that I live in during the winter is the North Face Nuptse Fur... they are SO warm. I stomp right through the snow in these. No dampness, great tread, comfortable and they're so cute on! I highly recommend them

I wear my Hunter rain boots in the snow and LOVE them. I think they are cuter than Uggs, too. They aren't as warm, but you can buy cute fleece or cable knit socks to put in them and they keep you pretty cozy in cold weather.

yep - awful in the snow - they get dried up and a ring of salt usually forms...
lands end has some cute/stylish yet good-in-the-snow boots...

Love my Sorel boots! I live in New England and these boots are not messing around. I have the Tivoli (http://www.sorel.com/Women%27s-Tivoli%E2%84%A2-Boot/NL1631,default,pd.html) which is pretty basic. Nothing flashy!
ETA: Uggs seem pretty useless for snow and ice.

I wear Uggs when it's not raining or snowing. I think they're ugly but they're so warm! When it's snowing I wear Sorel, raining I wear Hunters with the fleece inserts.

I think Sorel boots are the absolute best snow boots and I also happen to think most styles are very good looking. This comes from a Florida girl, though. I will say that the last time I went to a snowy area (NYC in winter), I had Sorel's and my friend had Uggs. Her feet were soaking wet and freezing most if the time, and mine were dry an toasty. I would never suggest uggs for snow.

They are warm, but not good in the snow like PPs have said! I have a nice pair of short sorels that are warm, and then a tall pair of north face booths that are really stylish and waterproof. I don't find them all that warm though. My are probably the warmest!

I love my Uggs but they're certainly not snow boots. I have Bogs for that purpose. I've made my way through dozens of brands and these are by far the best. Actually, every member of my family has a pair. They're rated up to -40 degrees F so if warmth is a concern, these'll have you covered. They're cute too!

Love them! Very warm and I think they can def hold up in snow/wet. Mine have never given me problems at all.

Agree with all the PPs that have said they blow for wet/snow (seriously just miserable) but are great for cold/dry weather. They're quick on/off and super warm and comfy (and the perfect addition to a legging/oversized sweater outfit that some may be opposed to but I love...). I have a pair of kick ass Sorel's for any time I'm in snow/super wet conditions for any extended period of time.

Ha, thanks everyone- glad I asked, it sounds like everyone agrees they are no good for snow! The hunter idea sounds good, because I would like an option that's good for rain and snow, bit the problem is I'm pretty short...has anyone worn the shorter version? I can't tell if they'd look funny in person. I may go with the sorels, based on your amazing reviews! I initially only saw the lace up kinds, and was hoping for a slip on, but I'm seeing some zipups that look cute.
@TurtleDoves: ha, fashionable was the wrong word- I actually think they are pretty ugly! But I was hoping to find something that could pass as a work shoe for those freezing days I don't want to change my shoes when I get in!
