Most of my co-workers buy their lunch every single day. It's mind boggling to me that they *never* have leftovers!

Most of them buy lunch because they don't cook.

haha yes! they also go to the pizza place or panera down the street... that would get so expensive. I always bring my own lunch.

@highwire: What is salad club? Or is it like fight club and you can't tell us about it?
When I was working it was half/half in my department. I was one of the people who brought my lunch most of the time. Way to expensive to buy lunch every day in Tribeca.

There's a variety of ways to do it, but here's how we do it:
Each week, one person is responsible for bringing all the supplies. We have four people participating so it works out to be about once a month that you have to buy.
Each week is also themed. So this week is basic salad week: lettuce, veggies, croutons, viniagarette, etc.
Other weeks are fruit salad, ethnic salad, and then the last week is "variety" where you can bring whatever the heck you want.
I keep a fridge in my office already for pumping purposes, so we just keep all the supplies in my office.
At lunch time, I set everything out on my extra desk in here and everyone helps themselves.
Sometimes I'll heat up a soup to have along side it.
We also have peanut butter, jelly, turkey, and bread in case people get bored and want a sandwich or something.

50/50. Some bring, some buy. My previous team, all of them bought lunch every day. And they went to nice places to eat too. Ouch on the wallet.

There's only one other person in the office with me and we both probably bring our lunch half the time.
@regberadaisy: This is actually one of the reasons I don't always have lunch. I just never have leftovers. Basically I only have them if I make soup. I don't make "dishes" just meat and veggies for dinner 90% of the time.

Majority go out to eat everyday. I bring my lunch almost everyday except Fridays when I usually go out to eat with coworkers. Everything around our office is fast food or mexican restaurant so that is just too unhealthy for me to eat everyday.

Most bring a lunch - except for the bosses. All the managers in my department eat out every day, no joke. I'd think that would get super expensive!

It's about 50/50.
I sometimes work 50+ hours a week and by the time I get home it's after 10pm. No time to make dinner so therefore no leftovers.
I love cooking but I sometimes don't have time for it.
I do try to cook over the weekends so I have leftovers. Also, I do buy canned food and soups and salads at grocery stores so that definitely saves me money.
Oh, there is usually some department having a lunch meeting so if I don't have lunch, if I wait til about 1:30-2p, I can usually snag a plate. If not, I grab a can of soup or eat across the street at the cafe.

Almost everyone brings a lunch. The places within walking distance aren't all that impressive! We did recently get a great food truck, but it's crazy expensive and only one of my co-workers goes there regularly. We're all Lean Cuisine addicts

Most people eat out, or go to the cafeteria downstairs.

@BananaPancakes: yeah, I have to make huge family sized meals to have leftovers. My DH will eat 75% of a huge casserole. I tell him to save some so I have lunch but then I feel guilty that he is still hungry at dinner. He usually wins.

Almost all of my current and former co-workers buy lunch. I'm usually the only one who brings their own.

@mrsjazz: oooh you work in Tribeca?! niiiice.
our office is mostly people who go out & buy lunch - i USED to bring lunch all the time, but lately I've been bad - I try to bring food as much as possible, but I end up going out to get food probably 2-3x a week.... our office is in Harvard Square so there are a million options very close by.
