@tequiero21: @yourekindapretty: me too! go science.
when i went to hs there were only 3 specialized hs, now there are 6 or 8? that must dilute the student quality somewhat. also, i don't know about the academics but the atmosphere has really gone down since valerie reidy became principal.

@littlek: A lot of them chose not to apply this year
Our schools are among the ones in NOVA who chose not to apply to be on the list this year. They've been in the top 100 for as long a I can remember previously.

@mrsmate - there are now 6-8 specialized schools?? there were only 3 when i went to hs too. is bklyn tech still in the three? I havent kept up to date with the current affairs of the school but i did read a LOT of bad press about Valerie reidy. =T

I'm sorry if anyone is offended by me posting this. I did it because I personally find it interesting and fun. By no means am I making a judgement if you did not go to a school on this list. And like I stated and @LindsayInNYC: stated this is just ONE of many, many school rating lists!
School district is important to us and was a huge deciding factor when making a house purchase. But I *know* a ton can change in 18 years which is why it was more important to us that we buy in a district that has been *historically* a good district rather than just the last five years, for example.
The End.

@Mrs. Stroller: Ahh, didn't know it was an application-based ranking system!

@Mrs. Stroller: interesting! I did not know that either.

When I went to high school in my town it wasn't very great, but now apparently it's among the top in the state and people assume I was crazy rich to have grown up there...! I'm guessing it's because of the whole college readiness factor (when I graduated there were only 3 AP classes available: chemistry, physics, and calculus) and the school has probably added a bunch of AP classes since I graduated.
And for the record, my high school is not ranked according to this list! I'm guessing they did not apply to be ranked.

Is this list only for public + charter schools, or are all schools (private) considered?
If it is for all schools, we are screwed for where we're at (Atlanta GA).

@looch: "I am seriously thinking that we'll sell our house, downsize to a condo and move to one of the surrounding areas to give him the chance to attend a top ranked school in our state." ---This is something we will consider, as well!!!

@LindsayInNYC: doesn't look like it is application based. But the schools do have to report their test data; not to US News directly.

Mine's nowhere near ranked nationwide or statewide... though our rival school is number 1 in our state (Oklahoma). Grr...
The high school where I want to send LO is ranked #1823 nationwide and #82 in the state. Which is actually pretty good for our area lol.

@tequiero21: I haven't herad that either and I know a ton of people who have recently sent their kids there. Kids are all at Ivys now, so standards can't have fallen too much. In any case, Stuy is still considered the holy grail round these parts.

@regberadaisy: I wonder if they have a national private school ranking because I guess that's what we may have to do ..... (!!! :-()

@plantains: yeah, my Hubs went to stuy, so he's always saying its the best lol.

@mrsmate: what?! 6-8? That definitely dilutes the population.... I guess it's been a long while since I've been in hs lol

@plantains: @tequiero21: @mrsmate: hehe I remember the competition/trash talking between the 3!

#447 nationally and #50 at the state level. Given the size of the state, I'd say that's pretty good.

@mediagirl: It's actually a residential school for 11th and 12th grade, so kids come from all over the state. They do cool stuff.
I feel like the next time I come down to NC I need to indoctrinate you in "all the awesome things about NC"
(We will actually be there the weekend after the 4th of July!)

@irene: Private schools are not included... I went to a private school in Atlanta and was looking for mine and it never showed up (nor did the other private schools I assumed would be top schools for the state), so I double-checked

@Lozza: um... OKAY. We will be in town that weekend. I think we need to make this happen.
