I made purees for my DD. She wasn't a big fan.
I've made purees for my DS, but he's not a fan either! I've made some good stuff too. 
I got tired of feeling rejected (haha) so I've been buying pouches for him. They're expensive, but he freaking gobbles them up. It's the weirdest thing.

What about reusable pouches and fill them up with your homemade stuff?

@stargal: I've given him bananas, avocados, butternut squash and he won't open his mouth for them!
If I give him Peter Rabbit, Ella's, or Happy baby he eats the entire pouch in one sitting. 3-4 ounces!
I actually squeeze the pouch puree into a spoon and spoon feed him.
I'm gonna try making sweet potatoes tomorrow because it's getting expensive to feed him!

Lucky for him I like butternut squash. I ended up eating all of it!
Sweet potatoes+apples+corn is something I can eat too so all good if he hates it I suppose

For the most part, I made purees for my LO but I bought some pouches/jars for stuff like peas, carrots, spinach, etc.

@chopsuey: I took a baby food making class that showed us how to make food to share. We made butternut squash, pear, and sage. The parents ate it as a chunky side dish and the babies had it pureed, it was yummy. Definitely go with the stuff you like, too!

@chopsuey: I had that same problem with my DD! My husband thought it was hilarious and told her that he understood, haha. I am a bad cook but still... I am going to try again with my DS in a couple months when he is old enough. I hate the price of the pouches but I do love the convenience.

I did! They both liked their purees with chunks. I tried jarred food and pouches but they were not fans. They liked homemade stuff. I do think it tastes a lot better than the ready made. To me anyway. Weird that DS likes the pouches but not homemade?

I used to buy the gerber purees but M really just wanted finger food so we didn't keep that up for long. She loves the pouches (refuses a spoon) so I do one of those a day. I can usually find them on sale at the grocery store or stock up. I've bought them on Amazon too.

What about making some purees and mixing it with the pouch food. You could start with 50/50 or even 75/25 and work your way until it's less pouch and more purees. I found the pouches tend to be sweet so that may be why he likes them?

I made them when she was eating purees. Now I do buy some for travelling but she's over pouches.

If you mean mashing things with a fork (bananas, microwaved sweet potato) then yes. If mean streaming and food processing foods- nope. We didn't get fancy, and if I was in a hurry, he got a tub of Gerber
We did a hybrid of purees and food from our plates to start, until we just forgot about purees.

@chopsuey: I did earths best jars and at my whole foods I could get the 4 oz jars for under a dollar! Also they run pouch sales on diapers.com all the time

@chopsuey: I make DD purées and give her plum organic pouches. I usually wait for a sale and stock up! Your DS eats 3 pouches a day? My DD usually finishes only one (spread over 2 "meals"). I was just thinking she should probably be eating more!

I didn't make it for my first and simply roasted veggies until they were soft enough. He also loved the pouches and still gobbles them up as a toddler.

@chrispygal: Yeah, I think he likes the sweetness.. butternut squash is pretty sweet though!
@locavore_mama: S&S is actually a little more expensive for the stuff he likes! I'm hoping he likes what I make him tomorrow.
@dolphin: Well, 2-3/day! I started him on solids consistently maybe a month ago? We started off with just one meal/day, then 2 and now we do 3 meals a day. He still nurses on demand and the amount of solids he eats varies daily. He's a porker.

No. Never. I spend so much time at work I try to maximize time with LO (and try to recov from work at night and on weekends!) AND I am not super confident in the kichen.

I did, but now we do BLW. I still make a puree for her occasionally though to go with her finger food but she doesn't like to eat anything off a spoon that isn't yoghurt. She'll kind of flick it off then put the empty spoon in her mouth, lol.

@MsLipGloss: I mean I know working moms do it but for me it just was not worth spending what little time I had at home making puréed when there are good organic options available.

I make all of her food, except yogurt and puréed prunes. My mom is pretty anti-pouch because she thinks it makes kids only want veggies sweetened with fruit and that pouches take away the table manners and learning to chew aspects of feeding.

@oliviaoblivia: In the beginning, my LO would only eat veggies! mixing veggies and a little fruit together was the only way I could get my LO to eat any fruit! She is almost 12 months and she still won't eat bananas, peaches, mango, or straight pear!

I do! She'll eat the pouches when traveling, and we're introducing more finger foods now that she's almost 9 months, but 90% is homemade purées. It's awesome to be able to give her foods/combos that aren't really in the pouches, eg she loves mango/papaya!
