Have any of your husband's gone through a vasectomy procedure? I'm thinking this is what we will choose as our birth control option but DH is kind of freaked out about it. Does anyone have any experiences they can share?

No experience, but it's supposed to be less invasive then getting your tubes tied. Plus, I already went through childbirth so he can deal.with it! Luckily my husband seems ok with doing it (when we're ready) anyway.

My husband’s friend recently had it done and said it wasn’t that bad. He specifically told us that he just sat on a pack of ice for a few hours after while smoking a cigar and relishing the fact that he never had to worry about having any more children again!! Lol ;-p

@yoursilverlining: LOL!! I guess if you put it that way, most men would think it's a good thing!
@artbee: I know what you mean! I told DH that if I can go through 9 months of pregnancy then labor and delivery (TWICE) he can do one small procedure! He's a big chicken when it comes to needles and blood and things so he's freaking out. He didn't say no though.

I had heard that you have to test a "sample" to make sure it worked. DH is not keen on the idea of producing the "sample". Anyone confirm/deny this ??

For most guys, I think it isn't so bad, and they only need ibuprofen for a day or so and some ice packs after the procedure. However, some guys get a lot more pain, or excessive scarring which causes long term pain (this happened to my Dad - who is honestly the toughest guy I know. He was almost completely unable to work, and was on percocet from month 2 post-op to month 6 post-op when they did laser treatment on the scar tissue). Apparently, this complication happens about 5% of the time.
@cupcakemama: Yep, they do ask for a semen sample about 6 weeks after the procedure to make sure it was effective.

My BIL got a new play station and got to stay home to play for a few days and he was fine!

heh. Doesn't hurt mom!
Definitely less invasive and involved than having your tubes tied. I know lots of guys who have had them and they were fine about it.
