When I was in high school I used to dye my hair using drugstore boxed dyes...Haven't done it since.
But thinking of doing it again because I don't want to spend $$$ at the salon.
Anyone do it?

Yep, I use the Natural Instincts temporary color (washes out in 6 weeks).
I use it to enhance my natural color by getting the color that's just a touch more red than my natural shade, and only applying it in streaks. People can't tell I've dyed it, but in the light the colored parts just shine with a slightly brighter red and it adds dimension to my color.

Yup; couldn't justify $125 every 5 weeks at the salon anymore.
I like the John Frieda foam color ones, but I've also used several others (I remember liking Revlon, but I can't remember the other ones I've liked in the past). I will try whatever brand promises to banish gray!

I did it once (dyed it blue black after some highlights had grown out) and NEVER AGAIN!! my hair was disgusting for a long time!!!

No, I've never dyed my own hair. My stylist doesn't charge much, so that helps.

I used to, and do my friend's and sisters all the time. I am pretty loyal to garnier, and only do it myself to go darker. I haven't lightened my own hair since high school (but have fond memories of one of the times!).

I did all the time in College. Now I pay my stylist because I did some mean things to my hair. My hair is healthy now.

always! i've never had my hair professionally dyed. i've got so much hair that i generally need to do 2 or 3 boxes of dye. i can't imagine how much that would cost at a salon!
i use the garnier ones too normally, but like @bpcmarj: i only ever go darker.
i have this wonderful quirk where if i dye my hair blonde it goes orange. no matter what i do O_o

Yep! I do mine every couple of montha. I only go darker, and use garnier usually. I've actually gotten compliments from hairdressers on my dye job lol! I just couldn't budget the $$$ in, and I think it turns out just fine!

Yep! I can hardly justify the cost of getting a haircut, let alone color every 5-6 weeks.
I tend to use Feria.

Yep - I used to do it aaalllll the time in HS/College. Since moving out of my parents' house (my mom and I would help each other), I haven't done it as much.
I just got to dye my hair again though, because my mom was visiting for a week! Haha

yup, every 6-7 weeks. I use the same two colors by L'oreal every time. One is my summer color and one is my winter color.
I do them by myself in my bathroom. I couldn't justify spending so much on my stylist to do it so often and I have really bad grey hairs.

Yes, also with semi permanent color that washes out in 28 shampoos.

It's the only way I do it anymore. I like the L'Oreal Sublime Mousse.

I never do it myself...I have learned the hard way a few times. EVERY time I did it at home, it would come out orange! Getting my hair done every 6-8 weeks is one of the few things I treat myself to and leave it up to the professional!
