A old coworker is a midwife and she is always posting about it so I finally watched an episode and I was hooked. I watched all the episodes in 3 days!
Does anyone else watch?

I just started watching it on Netflix & have really enjoyed it thus far! I wish it was more than 6 episodes!!! I heard from another bee that in series two medicated birth is introduced.... Idk how I'll like it since I'm veeeeery pro natural birth but I figure I'll give it a shot, when it gets on Netflix.

I just watched the first series on Netflix and loved it!! It had me bawling in a few episodes!

You could dl the PBS app or watch the second season on their website. They seem to only have the first episode of the second season

ME, ME, MEEEEEE! The episode with the breech birth was my absolute favorite!
@runsyellowlites: I had mixed feelings about the introduction of gas and air too, but I tried to sit back and enjoy it anyways. It was brought up in the first episode of season 2 and definitely not my favorite episode (for different birth nerd reasons), but I'll keep watching and hope the next episode is better.

I watched the first season when it aired on PBS, and am watching the second now. I love it. But, I pretty much love any historical fiction, and add birth and I am doubly interested!!

I'm a huge fan! Just finished the book too! The first episode of the second season just came out in the US so that's all that will be available until next week.

I started looking around and iTunes has season 1 for 9.99$ in High definition! It must be a big sale because season 2 is 26.99$! So if anyone wants to catch up on season 1 here's a good opportunity!

@FarmWifeGina: I KNOW!!!! I was so mad at him and felt terrible for him at the same time.

Season 1 is also available to watch on pbs.org (along with the new episodes)!

I started watching this a few days ago when I saw it mentioned on here. Four episodes later, I can't decide whether I'm hooked yet or whether I'm just curious because everyone's giving it such good ratings!

When the babies are born do you guys also feel a little teary eyed?
pear / 1571 posts
@bunnylove08: Teary-eyed? I outright bawl my eyes out! Like, sob! I'm a sappy birth junkie.

@FarmWifeGina: haha i try to keep it together, but yesterday's episode made me down right cry

Omg, just watching this weeks episode now..
spoiler.........
.like I'm not paranoid enough with an 11 week old...sigh.

@dagret: Ugh, I know, right? And I don't even have a newborn right now. Makes me wanna co-sleep with this next one and not let him/her out of my sight for a minute.

I was so shocked about Jimmy!
This week's episode was rough! I definitely was teary.

Okay, I've just finished the first season and I still don't know if I'm hooked or not but I'll say that I am for the sake of argument. Anyone else hoping that the secret Jenny is running from (trying not to spoil it!) is explained more in the next season? And here's hoping Chummy's confidence continues to blossom!

@bunnylove08: I have full out cried watching every episode. If it's not about a baby, it's because someone died.
grapefruit / 4442 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I would love to know more about jenny.
I want to start reading the books now, but I have a feeling it might spoil the episodes

*Spoiler alert* Ugh, this episode is pissing me off! All the advice the sisters were getting from the old books--the marshmallow, the red raspberry leaf, the birthing chair--was perfectly good advice! And "encouraging" gas "just to take the edge off." OMGEEEEE! Pffffft. Well, the 1950s WAS when maternity care got all modernized and went downhill from there.
ETA: Not that I think it was a good idea for the sisters to avoid professional care for long, I just hate the disdain for the old ways.

I just watched it for the first time tonight. I was totally confused half the time, but am interested enough to try to watch the older episodes.

@FarmWifeGina: at least we can take comfort in our greater appreciation for the old ways now, as they are seeing a resurgence in popularity and use.

@evansjamie: But still not widely accepted by many medical professionals. But yes, there is a return.

@bunnylove08 I'm up to date. Which one are you talking about?
Who has been watching? I'm worried about Sister Bernadette. Also the storyline with the dad and daughter was so sad. I'm glad it had a happy(ish) ending.

I didn't watch lase week (sob!) but I've been worried about her for the past few weeks.

I've been worried about Sister B from the start it feels like but as a haracter, I'm glad she's still around. Her quirkiness keeps me in fits! Haven't finished the latest episode, though - have to watch during late night nursing sessions!

Have any of you read the books?!?! I'm totally in love! I just finished her first Memoir "Call the Midwife: a Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times." It is amazing to me how closely PBS kept to the stories she wrote! DH already spilled the beans that I'm getting her other Memoirs for Mother's Day

@MamaBehr: I read the first one between the two seasons. I was a little upset that I found out some spoilers (mainly about Jimmy) but it was a good book. I think Sister Evangelina's character made a lot more sense after reading the book. Let me know how the others are.
