Bill Clinton cheated on his wife and Trump thinks that disqualifies Hillary Clinton. Does it?

No. Why on earth would the fact that he cheated mean she's not qualified to be President? I mean, by that logic, Trump isn't qualified because he has had multiple marriages and affairs.

No. (And furthermore it didn't disqualify him from being president either.) (And even further, Trump himself has publicly cheated and bragged about being promiscuous)

Not even a little bit. And I agree that if cheating disqualifies one from being president, Trump is out (many times over...) His hypocrisy is astounding. Also, how would being cheated ON be a factor? She can't control her husband's behavior 🙄 And if she is happy staying with him after, it's none of our business.

He's claiming that she's less of a feminist because her husband cheated on her? That she doesn't care about women's rights because her husband had affairs? I don't understand. No matter what angle he approaches this from, he's said and done much worse to women than being a cheated on wife who chose to stand by her husband and work through their issues. That, to me, just shows her strength and commitment to her marriage and family.
Some people say that by staying with Bill after he cheated she lost credibility as a feminist and champion for women's rights. I don't think that choosing to work on your marriage makes you less of a feminist. It means you value your relationship and that the vows you took mean something more than just words. It takes great strength to forgive someone who cheated on you.

Um, no. Why anyone particularly cares at this point in time is beyond me.

I love how if your husband cheats, YOU the female are disqualified/at fault. Of course, because it's always the woman's fault.
Trump commenting at all on someone else cheating is LOLOLOL. Pot, meet kettle. How many wives have you had again, and how many originated as affairs had while married to the previous wife?

I would love some Republicans to weigh in on this, because this is an "issue" very frequently posted through memes and shared articles (from questionable news sources) that I see very often on FB from my Republican friends.
So clearly, to them it matters. I would like to hear their thoughts on why.

And that makes sense how????
If I recall correctly, one of Trump's ex wives, Ivana Trump, accused him of rape in court. There is also a recent lawsuit by a woman who was a minor at the time. Granted, in one case the charges were part of divorce proceedings, and the other one is going to be he said, she said, because the allegations are years old like some of the Bill Cosby cases. But that does sound a wee bit worse than being a victim of a cheating spouse, then forgiving him.

Trump reminds me of my child delaying bedtime. His microphone was defective, the "liberal media" is biased (including Republican moderator Lester Holt), and now this. There are actually many similarities between Trump and a toddler. He is grasping at straws because he cannot handle the fact that not only is he losing, but he's losing to a GIRL!

Sure it does. If she can't even get her husband to be faithful how is she going to get world leaders to listen to her? They're just going to be judging her for letting her man stray! And probably wondering if she's getting her period. Whereas Trump's affairs prove what a strong powerful virile man he is and all the other world leaders will do what he says because they respect his game with the ladies.

@erinbaderin: ha, for a split second I thought you were serious and I was getting all ragey!

No. She is being "interviewed" so to speak on a job I want her to do, I don't care about her personal life from 20 years ago. Can she do the job and is she qualified? Check.

Believe me, I hate Trump. A lot. But I think the hypocrisy is his point? They are attacking him for being disrespectful towards women, so he's pointing out that Hillary's husband also was disrespectful by cheating on his wife. Now, Donald is obviously a huge misogynist and has far and away surpassed Bill in that department, but he knows he's losing and he's grasping at straws. I don't believe Bill's past should factor in to a discussion of Hillary's qualifications, but if that's true, then the media also shouldn't be publishing nude photos that Melania took when she was a model in her 20s.

No. What happened in their marriage is their business. for all we know they have an open marriage or other agreement
ETA I think it's totally hypocritical for trump to bring this up, but I will say I think this is why many people-- esp older women who identified with the clintons in the 90s-- don't like Clinton. Not that they think it disqualifies her, but I think it contributes to people who don't trust her and think she'll do anything to have power, including staying with bill. My mil, for example, is a lifelong democrat and really doesn't like Clinton. She would never ever vote trump but def didn't support her in the primary because she felt betrayed by her staying by him (and she dislikes bill too, fwiw). I think it's ridiculous, and dh tried to talk sense into her, lol, but just pointing out that this isn't a totally new argument against her

I don't think Bill's extramarital affairs should factor in at all especially considering Donald has done the same thing, and it was Bill that did it, not Hilary.
I do think that there is some validity to discuss how complicit Hilary was in discrediting women who came forward including a very young intern, and other women who had sexual assault allegations against her husband/the President.
But none of that matters nearly enough for me to ever consider voting for anyone other than Clinton, for even a millisecond.

@erinbaderin: The sad thing about this statement, is I've actually heard it in real life from family members. I got all sorts of ragey at a family reunion and had to physically remove myself from the situation.

@Truth Bombs: I agree with that -- I don't care that Melania posed nude, and I don't think it's relevant.

I'm a republican and I think 'character counts'. Based on that I think Trump is completely disqualified and I'm not a fan of Bill. Hilary, however, has shown that she is willing to stand by her husband and honor her commitments even when things are hard.
I'm really not a Hilary fan for other reasons, but this is not one of them.
cantaloupe / 6869 posts
I don't see why the would matter since Bill is not running for president. It's not her fault he cheated and it shouldn't be considered a character flaw for her to stay with him.

I agree with @daniellemybelle: I don't see any issue in the affairs, but Hillary's response was pretty brutal. There was an interview with Monica that described her perspective, and I can't imagine what she went through.
All that said, I see it as a blip in Hillary's career of service to women and children and can forgive her for it.

I dont really understand the angle of attacking a woman for her husband's infidelity. Her husband cheated, not her, him! The onus is on him. She is the victim. I am sure Hillary acted like any other woman who finds out the person they dedicated their life to violated their trust. Who wouldnt lash out a little after such an experience? Who can say what any of us would do in this situation? Its easy to think you would pack up and leave but what about your family, your children, your home, memories, life and love you built together? Everyone is allowed to make their own choices when confronted with these experiences and no one choice is right or wrong, stay or go. In the end how Hillary handled this with Bill or with herself is no one elses business but theirs and hers. Forgiveness is the gift you give yourself in not allowing yourself to be consumed by hate and bitterness.

@erinbaderin: my eye doctor actually had the audacity to tell me that Hillary Clinton can't be president because the leaders of Islamic countries won't respect her because she is a woman. Internally I was screaming, on the outside I just smiled politely and said, "There are many female leaders worldwide and they do just fine. She was a secretary of state and I think that worked out well, too." It was mindboggling. I had to stay there and sit there the rest of the exam because my eyes were dilated

@DesertDreams88: I saw a woman say that! I was like, wtf, are you kidding? She actually said that ISIS wouldn't respect her as president, which is incredibly stupid. As if they respect our leadership currently anyway?!
