I'm indifferent...it's a very formal way of addressing stuff! And typically only formal invitations and such come that way, at least in my house.

It doesn't bother me. What did really get me was when one of DH's groomsmen invited us to his wedding (a year after ours) and addressed our invite as Mr. DH and guest.

I think it's the formal way of addressing envelopes. Doesn't bother me.

It doesn't bother me. We have only recieved on card addressed that way. We mostly get to Mr.and Mrs. RC Car.

doesn't bother me & we don't have the same last names. it did annoy my mom who has a different last name as my dad & i know someone else who was really bothered when ppl would address things to 'Dr & Mrs. <husband's name>' because she too was a dr & felt like it was disrespectful to acknowledge his title & not hers, which i can understand i guess.

@oliviaoblivia: that would piss me off too! 'guest' like he's gonna bring s date other than his wife... ppl can be rude!

It doesn't bother me. And I still have my maiden name. I have his name "in spirit". LOL.

@mrs. bird: That person clearly doesn't know how to address cards. Emily Post would be ashamed. Their cards clearly should have been addressed The Doctors Lastname or Drs. Firstname and Firstname Lastname.

It's the formal way of addressing. I address my family cards that way (with first name, not the first inital) and will continue to do so. I'm proud to be Mrs. ___ ______. If I had a different last name than my husband, I still would be okay with people doing it. It's easier to write mr and mrs than it is to write mr. john doe and mrs. jane eyre.....

I don't know that it bothers me, but it does kind of make me laugh - like, how old-fashioned and almost quaint, I guess. I have a hyphenated last name so I realize it's quite long to write both of our full names, though.

I always address married couples as Mr. and Mrs. <Husband's First Name> <Husband's Last Name>. Isn't that the norm? And even if you didn't take his last name, socially, you are still Mrs. <Husband's Name> even if professionally (and technically) you still have your maiden name.

So this definitely doesn't annoy me. I'm curious what you want it to be addressed as? Just leave off the "Mr. and Mrs." part and address it as <Husband's First Name> and <Wife's First Name> <Husband's Last Name>?

I'm indifferent about it. For close friends, I just write both of their first names followed by their last name. For more formal people, I write Mr. & Mrs. (last name).

We get a few things a year address to Mr. and Mrs. W. P_____ and it just makes me smile because I automatically know they are from part of his family. His grandmothers, aunts, and cousin all address our mail that way.

It does annoy me. I give a pass to very old relatives but deep down it still bothers me to see “Mr. and Mrs. His Name Only”. I am my own person, I have my own name. I had my own name before we got married; I have my own name now – and they know this! Also, I’m more than just a “Mrs.”. It just rubs me the wrong way.

I actually like it. I love that I am his wife and I have no qualms with sharing his name. I am also very traditional and I didn't even realize it might rub people the wrong way. I always address an envelope like this or I use "The Blank Family" if they have kids on a not formal envelope.

I think a lot of people in this thread misunderstood the question. I believe the OP is not referring to cards addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", but to cards addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith."

And yes, it bothers me a lot. At our wedding I insisted we would be introduced as Mr. and Mrs. H, not Mr. and Mrs. Hisname H.
