I couldn't find anything 24 months today & I was wondering if they go straight to 2T? Doesn't 2T fit slimmer to account for no diaper? And I don't want to buy anything with a T

Yes and there is such a big difference between 18 months and 2t! I don't know why they do that.

I was able to find some 24 month stuff at target.com, but never in the store.

I didn't notice much of a difference between 24 month and 2T stuff and just moved right to 2T with oldest DD. Awww I hear you on the not wanting to buy a "T!" Oldest DD is now in 4T and can also wear a girls size 4, but I'm holding on to that "T!"
