Just got a call from daycare that Xander's been rubbing at his eyes all day and they are red and puffy. Besides that, he's been fine. Do you think that sounds like seasonal allergies??

It's hard to say without seeing them. Are they gunky? It could be pinkeye. My friend's LO was also just diagnosed with a bilateral ear infection where the only symptom was red, puffy, watery eyes.

Does he have a runny nose or coughing or other symptoms of allergies? Otherwise, I think it may be something else.

yep it could be.
My DS gets red eyes that he rubs all day when the pollen is bad

@kiddosc: They didn't say anything about them being gunky. He's had pinkeye before and they were really on top of it (especially about me not bringing him back, haha), so I would think they'd mention that if that was the case! Interesting about your friend's LO with the ear infection! Xander gets ear infections all the time, so... maybe??
@Alivoo01: I noticed a slight runny nose the past couple days, but daycare didn't mention it.
@Mamaof2: How old is your DS? Do you do anything about it?

@Adira: 6 - yes he gets eye drops and I give him Claritin for a few days

Could be seasonal allergies, but we tend to see a lot of sneezing as well. Our air quality is very poor locally so LO is on a daily dose of allergy meds to try to keep it all at bay. We had started with Zyrtec, when it stopped being effective we moved to Claritin (still using!).

@Mamaof2: @MamaG: Thanks!
@MamaG: Did your LO's pediatrician suggest the daily allergy meds? I have Children's Claritin, but I feel wary about using it every day without discussing with our doctor. I guess I should wait a few days anyway since this is the first his eyes have been bothering him and maybe it's just a fluke or something else.

@Adira: Yes. She's been on daily medication at her doctors recommendation since she was two (I think). I know she was younger than what the bottle at the store says. The doctor also recommended the change in medication when we started seeing more issues as well.
She's been prone to sinus infections and this helps keep her clear in that regard.

@Adira: try a dose of Benadryl tonight - if that helps then you can assume its allergies

@MamaG: Thanks! I guess I'll wait it out a bit and then maybe talk to his doctor about it if it seems like he really does have seasonal allergies. He has asthma and food allergies, so it makes sense he'd have other allergies as well!
@Mamaof2: Good idea, thanks!
