I keep hearing activity mats don't get used/aren't worth the money. But why would they sell so darn many of them if that were the case? I keep getting conflicting things with people also saying they are a baby staple. Did your baby use it? Is it worth it?

DD LOVED her play mat! From the time she was a few weeks old, she would happily lay on her mat for an hour at a time, just staring at the black and white striped toys. She then moved on to playing with the toys and the mirror and just loved it! We finally put it away at 5.5 months when we went on holiday for two months but we most definitely got our money's worth.

No you MUST get one. Worth their weight in gold. Especially if you ever want to shower while watching baby solo!

We've been using S's mat since she was 3 weeks. She loves it. She used to just stare, but now she'll talk to the toys. She really loves the mirror! It's also nice for me, because sometimes I feel like I don't know what to do to stimulate her, and it gives us something to do.

Our LO loves her play gym so much that we bought one for when she hangs out at the grandparents'. My advice is get one used though. I was at Goodwill on Sunday and saw 4 for less than $10.

Our baby didn't use his much, but I think we just waited too long to get it - we kept meaning to but didn't get around to it until he was almost 5 months. I'd definitely get one much earlier if I were going to do it again. He still does love some of the little clip-on toys that came with it.

Activity mats? Meh. Activity gyms? Definitely a must!

DS uses his tiny love gym every day. He loves talking to the animals that hang down, and kicking his feet to keep the music going.

My LO had an activity gym...assuming that's what you are referring to? Ours is a mat with two hoops hanging over it with toys that hang down. We used it every day, multiple times a day from when he was a 1 week old all the way until about 7 months old.
Once he started crawling, we put it away but I will take it out every so often and he likes looking at the bright colors on the mat but is only interested in it for a few minutes. We took all the hanging toys off so he uses them as teethers and toys to bring along in my diaper bag. Well worth the money, definitely a staple!

Agreed! lO loves his gym at 3 months. We have the skip hop owl one.
It has gotten far more use than anything else, including swing and bouncer. -
Lo loves his skip hop activity gym. We got it free as a hand me down. He's 6 weeks so its one of like 4 things in my repertoire for keeping him entertained and occupied. Plus it's really cool to watch him notice the toys and swat/kick and them and get excited when he pegs one. Then I flip him over for tummy time. Totally worth it.

We were gifted a gym with one bar when DS was 2 months old. He didn't care for it until he was at least 3 months old. I could leave him there for up to 20 minutes at a time, up until he was about 4.5 months old, when he learned how to roll back to tummy. I still put him on it occasionally for a few minutes, but he doesn't care for it as much as he used to. We did take off a few of the toys and carry them in the diaper bag now.
If you're going to get one, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it.

BUY ONE. We love ours. It's the only place I can put both babies and have any guarantee of peace/happiness. Dirty little secret: I often leave them there for 15-20 minutes while I do dishes/take a shower/etc. They love it...I love it...win/win.
Who on earth said they weren't worth the money? They're nuts. -
So far, at 3.5 months, her activity gym (Luv You Zoo) is her favorite thing ever! She can spend forever there and just this week has actually started playing with the toys that hang off of it.
